Three days later and I still haven't talked to buck, I was mostly caught up in something else, Andreas had to go on business trip so I had to take care of santi. He has never been a kid to hit others in school until now, I got a call while I was at work from his school ñ that he was in a fight. I asked Bobby if I could go and he was completely fine with it, I ran to my car while still being in my uniform and drove to his school. When I went inside the principals office, santi was already sitting there with his head down, picking at his nails. "Ms. Cruz, thank you for being here on such short notice, you must be Santiago's mom." I look at Santi and he shrugs his shoulders, he really told him that I was his mom and I went along with it. "Let's skip the introductions and how about you tell me what happened? I know Santi well enough to know he doesn't go around punching people for no reason."

Before the principal could say anything, Santi speaks up. "I was helping a girl who only spoke Spanish to find her class and then Spencer told us that we were in an America and to only speak English. I told him to be quiet and he told us to go back to Mexico. Does anyone not care about what he said?" I give the principal an angry glance, "so the only thing that these teachers noticed was him punching someone but didn't hear what this kid told santi?"

"Ms Cruz, we have a strict no violence policy at this school, Santiago is suspended for a day." I was baffled by this man's words. "That doesn't make any sense, so you're not condoning violence but with racism it's freedom speech? Do you not know how bad that sounds?" He stayed quiet and I laughed then grabbed santi's hand. "Not only was this a complete waste of my time but you're part of the problem why people and now kids think this is okay." As we were walking out of the room, I saw the kid Spencer with a bloody nose, Santi got him good and all he ended was a scratch on his cheek. "You must be the mom of the kid who hurt our baby Spencer. You look like a kid yourself, slut much?" The woman said to me, she wasn't even sober, you could smell the booze from a while away.

I give Santi my car keys and told him to wait in the car. I look at her stupid hat, "for someone who preaches about how much they love the U.S you sure are talking crap about a firefighter who is also a veteran, someone who serving your country. You might wanna teach your kid to shut his mouth before he messes with my kid again."

I walked away to my car and as soon as I was about to get the woman stops me. "Hey! You want a piece of me bitch!" I laughed, this was not actually happening, "no thanks, I prefer to save lives rather than take them but you might wanna take your kid to get checked up, that's one nasty nose bleed, may even be a broken nose." I get into my car and drive off, "I get it, santi, it's never easy to hear those words but I know in the moment you kinda let your head take over and you do something you'll regret later." He sighs and looks up at me. "It's stupid, how they believe the white kid over a brown kid like me. I promise you Ari I wasn't trying to hurt anyone, I just kinda lost it." I nod my head. "The adult in me wants me to say ignore it but the kid in me says it's not gonna change a single thing. The whole point is you shouldn't have hit him."
