Chapter 41:

MATTIA'S P.O.V.

She walks into the cafeteria with him wrapping his arms around her shoulders. I feel my jaw clench up as I observe them walk over to a table in front of mine and take a seat.

At first, she doesn't notice me.

I feel myself becoming angry. She looks so happy with him. A happiness that I don't think I was able to provide for her.

It's crazy to me. She's never mentioned this guy.. and i swear she never talked to him. Never even knew he existed.

I would've known

And now it's like he popped out of nowhere, and is able to give her everything I guess I couldn't give her. He's perfect in her eyes, isn't he?

But I bet if I had a day with him I would know all his flaws. And I would know exactly if he's right for her or not. Which he isn't

She deserves the world. And no one can give her that

She's laughing with him; as she draws her hair away from her face, and then he turns to pull something out of his bag. And she makes eye contact with me for the first tome since she's entered the room

Her eyes widen for a second and then she looks away immediately. She angles her face away from me but I can see she's uncomfortable with where she's seated now.

And she whispers something to him.

He nods and she stands and walks over to the cafeteria line.

I look around.

Jenna isn't here

But I like her, right?

So what? You can still talk to Dawn as friends.

Am I over her though?

Yes. Now move on

I stand slowly and make my way over behind her. She doesn't move. Doesn't turn to me, or move away from me.

I don't think she knows I'm behind her.

I tap on her shoulder. She turns around and when she sees it's me, she moves away quickly.

She's so beautiful

Stop it

I should just tell her I'm not over her and stop lying to myself

She has a boyfriend. I can't do that to her.

I place my hand on her shoulder. "I don't wanna be together" I say bluntly. She turns to me, silently. Almost as if she's upset because I notice her face drops

"Y-you dont?" She winces.

I furrow my brows

But then she smiles. "Good. But I still don't think we can be friends"

"We can. Please"

She looks over at Aiden, who's on his phone and then back at me. "Alright"

"And also, I'm sorry for-"

She lifts her hand gesturing for me to stop. "It's okay. Just forget any thing ever happened. Forget we even dated"

I laugh. "I can't forget. Because it obviously happened-"

"Mattia, enough. You don't have feelings for me and I don't have feelings for you so maybe we should stop bringing any of this up."

She doesn't have feelings for me?

"Oh" I say rubbing my neck

But I have feelings for her

"Oh?" She says confused

Forget you have them

"I mean— you're right" I say nodding weakly

"Yeah" she grabs her tray of food and purses her lips together as she walks away
