An: Happy September Everyone!!!

Marcus, formal as he is, was the first to step up to us.

"Alpha," he nodded at Damon who in turn gave a slight nod back. "Alpha," he nodded at me, which made me feel a bit weird, but in a good sorta way.
It was now begining to register in with me, I was an Alpha. An actual Alpha.
Woah.

"I pledge my loyalty to you both, as the moon is my witness, until my last breath." Marcus stated, his right fist on his chest, his head lowered.

That got dark real quick.

I smiled at him, not really knowing what to say to that and just said, "Thank you."

Dropping his hand and lifting his head back up he took a step back.
He stood there looking at us as though he was waiting for a command of some sort.

Or to be dismissed?
I sincerely hope not.

I get that this is his job and everything and that he's still second in command even while he's asleep but that shouldn't mean he has to be in work mode 24/7.
Come to think of it, does he even sleep?

He doesn't live at the packhouse with the rest, he has his own property on the land which would further encourage isolation and seriousness on his part.
And apart from helping run the pack's day to day, he was mostly in charge of training the pack, sometimes I wondered if he even just slept out in the fields.

He needs friends, and I sincerely hoped he had hobbies outside just work and being told what to do.

And then I just blurted out in a haste, and also to cut into the awkward silence "Hope you're gonna take some time off and actually enjoy yourself?" He seemed a bit taken aback by what I said, I surprised myself a bit too.

"Enjoy myself." He repeated it like the word 'enjoy' was a foreign concept to him.

"Yeah, like hang out, eat some food, have some fun, it's basically just a party now." I tried to steer him on gesturing around us. The music, the food and drinks, all the people around, pack members and non pack members, lots of options to hang out with.

"You don't have to work all the time you know."

"I like my work. I don't mind it."

"Yeah, but all work and no play..." I started off hoping he'd finish it, but all he did was stare at me probably waiting for me to finish my own damn sentence.

And Damon just stood there, watching me sweat trying to keep up a conversation with his beta. Our beta.
"Okay, you know what, just don't work again till the end of the week, today's already Thursday, that's like three days off. Just do something, anything other than work, please."

Marcus seemed like an incredibly tough nut to crack, and from what Damon had told me, there was so much more to his story. Maybe that's why he's immersed himself in work, trying to forget all else.

But at least he shouldn't forget how to be happy once a while.

He just had a neutral expression on his face now, which I considered a win since his everyday expression is a serious one.

I'm being optimistic people.

"Uhm,"

"Really Marcus, you can relax a bit, we can continue work next week." Damon told him placing a hand on his shoulder.
I mean, Damon, Damon was telling someone relax. Oh how the world has turned on its axis.

Marcus opened his mouth to say something, most likely something about work but then suddenly closed it turning around and looking in the distance.

"Everything alright?" Damon asked, a brow raised at Marcus.
Marcus turned to Damon briefly and looked back out in the distance for a while before he turned back to us.
