#1: ZerVis: The Past Comes Back

Zeref's POV

It's been a couple years since Mavis died. I killed her. Why did I? Did I do it out of rage? Anger? Jealousy? Disgust? Hatred?

No. I loved Mavis. Why did she die? None of this would've happened if I killed her. I burned a hole right through her heart.

I was grieving in the middle of the forest, right near where Mavis died.

'Zeref? Is that you?' I could hear a faint voice. No one ever talked to me like that... Unless? Mavis is back?

'Mavis?!' Her pale ghost started drifting toward me.

'Why are you sulking, Zeref? I thought I told you to play?'

'IT'S ALL MY FAULT!' I started sobbing out in tears and bent over and just threw my hands on the ground.

'I knew the risks, Zeref. I did it to protect you.' Mavis' face dropped as soon as memories washed over her.

'And I couldn't control myself.'

'Even though you may not forgive yourself for killing me. I will forgive you. You were the best thing that happened to me.'

'But there's nothing I can do to change the way I feel about you.' I sniffed.

'I may not be here physically to comfort you, but there is a point to that. I may not be in my ethereal form or my physical form, but I'm here.' She sticks her index finger and presses it against my forehead. Then she removes her finger and presses against my chest, right on top of my heart.

'But I can't and won't get over you.'

'You might bottle your fears up inside, Zeref. But you can't change the past. It's fate for everything. If you don't believe in fate, faith or even destinies, but it was always meant to be. I even foretold it and bottled it all up. I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Zeref.' Mavis' face dropped once more.

'But I can't live without you...' And with that, I dropped to the ground.
