Tired

You made it back to the TARDIS after a very painful walk. You were surprised at how neither the robot or the quick sand or anything like that hurt you, it was the damn house.

"Doctor I'm going to go to bed. Been a long day today" Ryan said.

"Yeah I might pop off too" Graham nodded.

"I can practically hear my bed calling out for me" Yaz smiled.

"Night guys" the doctor smiled.

They all walked off, waving you a goodnight. The doctor turned to you, sighing a little.

"Right then (y/n). Let's get you checked out" the doctor said, gesturing you to follow her down the corridor.

You walked behind her, wincing as you kept your hand glued to your rib cage. You hadn't even had a chance to properly look at yourself after the fall. But your whole body was getting a lot more painful now, the bruises definitely taking shape. You cursed yourself for not being more careful up there.

The doctor led you to an increasingly familiar room, the med bay. You followed her inside, sitting on the chair and watching her tinker with a few things.

"I need you to stand up over here" the doctor said to you, gesturing under one of the big machines.

You didn't really question what it was, just standing up with a painful wince and standing under the machine.

"Put your arms on your sides." She said, switching a few things with the machine.

"Why?" You asked, really not wanting to release the pressure.

You were sure that removing your hand was going to cause pain. The doctor gave you a sympathetic look, making you sigh and remove your hand with a quiet groan.

"It's just a full body scanner. Just, stay still. Won't hurt a bit" she smiled.

"It already hurts" you mumbled to yourself.

She sighed, switching the scanner on. The machine around you scanned you with a red light over your body. You didn't move an inch, knowing that this scan was quite important and also because it would hurt a lot.

You waited for a few seconds before the lights stopped and the scanner seemed to have finished scanning you. You didn't move though, not one hundred percent sure that it was fully over. The doctor looked at you.

"You can move now" she smiled.

You nodded, instantly putting your hand back on your stomach and moving back to the chair. Your whole body felt heavy and tired and your head was killing you. All you knew was you wanted to go right into your bed and have a nice sleep. The doctor read off the screen at your injuries and the fact that she didn't look too worried brought a sigh of relief to you, knowing that you weren't too badly hurt.

"Right. You're lucky there's nothing broken. Just a lot of bruising and some internal bruising too. Bit of a head injury. There's quite a bad graze on your stomach though. Mind if I take a look?" She said.

"Do I have a choice?" You replied.

She sighed, moving towards you. You lowered your hand with a wince, allowing the doctor to roll up your shirt and look at the damage.

You looked down too, seeing that there was a huge, purpled and blackened bruise across a lot of your stomach. The graze was quite bad. It looked as though while you were running you'd basically ripped your graze to an open wound which was bleeding a little.

"How many shirts have I messed up because of shit like this" you sighed.

The doctor looked up at you like a mother who was angry at their child at their actions. You rolled your eyes, knowing what she was about to say.

"(Y/n) there's no need to swear. I've tried to ignore it but it's getting a little out of hand. Do I need to explain to you the importance of kind words" the doctor glared at you before returning to your wound.

"No..no there's no need for that doctor. I'm sorry I won't swear again" you quickly said.

You really didn't want to have to listen to one of the doctor's lectures. You weren't in the mood and you were way too tired to be able to listen to another one of her lectures. She must have been a university lecturer professor before for her to be able to give you so many lectures.

"Because kind words are very important. One kind word changes someone's entire day. Kind words don't cost much, yet they accomplish lots to be able to warm someone's hearts up" the doctor spoke.

You sighed, closing your eyes and listening to her words. You were just too tired for this but her words were something peaceful to listen to. You winced a little s you felt the doctor cleaning your wound with a alcohol wipe. You hissed a little, grabbing onto your chair.

"Kind words may only take a short amount of time for you to say and can be easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless. Kind words can unlock an iron door" the doctor spoke with a smile on her face.

You winced a little as she put a gauze on your stomach. You jumped a little at the touch but didn't move. Your eyes opened a little but you didn't look at the time lord. You were painfully aware that the doctor could see many of your scars right now and you were just praying that she'd continue to speak about kind words and not bring it up. Your eye lids were getting increasingly heavy so you shut them again, leaning back on the chair and relaxing a little.

"And maybe tomorrow you will forget the kind words you speak today but the recipient will cherish them for a lifetime, however long or short that lifetime is. Sometimes people forget that kind words have the potential to change a whole persons life around. One kind word can warm three winter months. And when kind words are both true and kind, they can change the world" the doctor told you, finishing with your wound.

She pulled your shirt back down, standing up. She grabbed your arm and injected some pain relief. It stung a little but you were really tired you didn't really respond. When she looked at your closed eyes and non responsive body she grew concerned.

"(Y/n)?" She called for you worriedly.

A small groan left the back of your throat in response. You were really tired. You didn't want to move or anything. Just sleep.

"Can you open your eyes for me" she said, moving closer to your head.

You wined a little in annoyance, really not wanting to. You really slowly opened your eyes, squinting your eyes at the bright lights. You saw the doctor shine a light in your eyes, causing you to groan louder, moving away from her.

"Doctor I'm fine, just...tired" you said quietly, closing your eyes a little.

"It might be the head injury. Okay, you need some rest. Off to bed. And, put this on every night. It'll help with the bruising" she said, standing you up and handing you something.

You looked down and knew immediately it was the healing cream. It didn't take the doctor to tell you twice to go to bed before you made your way sleepily to your room.
