Comfort

You woke up from a surprisingly peaceful sleep with a small yawn. You felt someone stroking your hair softly, fingers running through your (h/c) strands. You fluttered your eyes open, moving your arm to wipe your eyes. You were met with Missy. You remembered last night and looked up to her face.

"You're awake?" She asked.

"Yeah...what time is it?" You asked, your voice still raspy from sleep.

"It's still pretty early, you should get some more sleep" she whispered, continuing to stroke your hair.

You lay your head back down on her chest, listening to her beautiful heartbeat and enjoying the feeling of her playing with your hair. You wished this was what you could wake up to every morning. Wake up in her arms, in her warmth.

"I'm sorry if I've been a bit of a hassle. I mean... I kinda stole half of your sleeping space" you said.

You didn't want to look like you were hitting on her by sleeping in her bed with her two nights in a row. She was just a friend and you needed to keep telling yourself that. She thought nothing more of you.

"It's okay (y/n). I've told you before, I like watching you sleep. You're so peaceful. And I love how you smile in your sleep" she said.

You blushed. She loved something you did! No, wait, she didn't mean it like that. God you needed to stop.

"Did you sleep?" You asked.

"I'm not really tired." She replied.

You looked up to her, a frown on your face. She needed some sleep, however little that may be. She saw your face and grinned, shaking her head and rolling her eyes.

"People from Gallifrey don't sleep as often as you, Ive told you" she said.

You smiled, laying your head back down as she continued to absentmindedly stroke your hair. You hugged her close, your arms draped around her torso.

"Tell me about Gallifrey. The doctor told me once when I was sixteen but...I'd like to hear about it from your perspective" you said, closing your eyes.

She scoffed, "it was an awful place"

You giggled, not expecting that to have been her answer.

"Well I wasn't expecting that" you smiled.

"It's true. People there were awful. They messed up my head for a good few hundred years of my life and weren't even sorry. I hate Gallifrey. I prefer travelling to different places. New places" Missy told you with a smile.

"I agree with that. I hate being on earth. I'd rather keep travelling" you said "so, how old are you now?"

"Bit personal" she chuckled.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude" you quickly said in embarrassment.

"I was only kidding. I'm well over two thousand years old now." Missy smiled.

"Woah, two thousand years. Like the doctor then?" You said.

"Yes like the doctor. I did grow up with her." She replied.

"So...you know her name?" You asked.

She smiled some more, looking down at you.

"Yes I know her name" she smiled. "The doctor isn't her name. Just as the mistress isn't mine"

"So, does everyone from Gallifrey eventually change their names to...Well a title. Like, the doctor, or like the...mistress?" You asked.

You blushed as you called her mistress. God you needed to stop being like this. That was just her name, it didn't mean anything.

"No, not everyone. Quite frankly I just wanted to disconnect myself from Gallifrey as much as possible" Missy said.

"You really hate your home planet that much?" You asked.

"Yes" she simply replied without hesitation.

"I feel the same way about my own" you sighed "so much crap on my own planet. Could never do anything right."

"What...like your exams? You passed them. Well, some of them" she said.

"My GCSEs yes cuz the doctor helped my through those. But not my A levels. I didn't have any help with those, turned out I wasn't very good on my own. I literally failed every single one except for my music exam. I even failed my art. Wanna know why. A wonderful bitch in school threw paint all over my final piece. Couldn't be graded and that...that's what lost my grade" you sighed, pulling Missy closer for some comfort.

She held you closer, stroking your hair. You let out a shaky breath, realising just how shit your school life was.

"I wasn't safe anywhere when I was younger Missy. Not at home because of my dad beating the shit out of us all. And not at school either with those bullies. They...they would.." you swallowed hard, burying your head in the crook of her neck.

Missy held you closer, patting your hair softly and leaning down into your ear, whispering comforting things.

"Hey, it's okay, it's okay, shh" she whispered.

You breathed slowly, turning your head away. You looked up at Missy and sighed heavily.

"Missy they used to get the scalpels from the science department and...cut me..." your voice wobbled and you squeezed your eyes shut at the memory.

"Damn those bitches, I'll cut their eyes out if I ever see them with those very scalpels!" Missy seethed through her teeth, holding you closely.

You shook your head, causing Missy to stop and look at you in confusion. You didn't want that. You'd never hit anyone in your entire life because you swore to yourself you'd never stoop to their level.

"I don't want that Missy. Just forget about them. I don't want to hurt them, because then we'd be just as bad as them. Got the scars to remind me of what not to become" you said.

You lifted up your shirt and pointed out some scars that dragged out on your stomach. Some were ones which your bullies gave you, some were from others. Missy looked down, and her fingertips brushed past your bare stomach, tracing the scars. Goosebumps arose across your stomach and you blushed, biting your lip and realising that she was touching your bare stomach. The feeling was like fireworks. Her fingertips moved up with your scars, up the side of your stomach and back down again.

She traced a few of your scars across your stomach, her hand coming to rest gently on your skin. You were laying down in silence, feeling Missy's fingers occasionally brush past a few more scars. Your heart fluttered a little faster and the butterflies in your stomach were going wild. What with Missy stroking your stomach now and again.

"Thank you" you said quietly.

"For?" She asked.

"For helping me today. Through that breakdown earlier. And...for this, not leaving me alone. You don't even know how much this means to me" you told her.

She smiled, kissing the top of your head as you lay, listening to her heartbeat. Her hand kept tracing your skin, as she stroked your hair gently.

"You're welcome. You should get some sleep" Missy told you.

You nodded your head, closing your eyes peacefully and safe in her arms.

"Goodnight love" she whispered, kissing the top of your forehead.

You smiled, hugging her closely. You wanted to stay here forever. You wished you could do this all the time.

"Good night" you whispered back, drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
