"What are you going to wear today?" Georgette says to me after breakfast. Everyone going to Hogsmeade is meeting in the courtyard at eleven in the morning so it gives us a few hours to bum around.
I open my trunk carefully and look at all the dark coloured clothes I have. It feels weird, paying attention to what you're wearing. I've never really done that before, care what I looked like, cared what other people think about what I looked like. Especially for a boy.
"Uhm, I dunno. Jeans and a jumper?" I say awkwardly. It's what I was going to wear whether or not I had a date anyway. Nan makes the best jumpers and gives us one every year. She always makes mine with black and white yarn.
Georgette rolls her eyes, "You can't just wear what you do every other day of your life Cass! Here move out the way let me look." She shoves me gently out of the way of my trunk and I move off the floor and sit on the top of my bed watching her sort through my things.
Leah comes into the room with Sacha and she looks at me with one eyebrow raised, "What is this? Playing dress-up are you?" She says it as a joke but I take minor offence to it for some reason. Things with Leah have never been smooth sailing, I remember when we were younger we got into a massive fight when Victoire was babysitting us one day in the summer. She wished that she wasn't a twin and I nearly threw her out of the big window we've got in the living room that looks out into Diagon Alley.
"Well, you're not going to make sure that she doesn't look like a mess when she spends the day with Todd and someone's got to," Georgette says without looking at Leah.
I look at Leah and we make eye contact. Then Leah shrugs, "You're right. No way in hell am I doing that."
Ouch.
That hurt, quite a bit honestly. I keep a poker face and I don't say anything else. Even when Georgette throws me a long black skirt and a tight fitting top with lace sleeves. "And this way, even if you manage to spill something on yourself, you won't be able to see the stain! Its fools proof."
