Chapter 58: What Am I To You?

Alex's POV

It had been a while, but I wanted to see how my buddy Kyle was doing.

Truthfully, instead of asking to go in, I reverted to my old habits and just snuck into the Underworld.

It actually wasn't that hard.

I considered bringing Sheila, but I know my best friend and my girlfriend didn't get along.

Not sure why though. Both of them are pretty lit.

"Hey stop!" 

I turned around and let a sigh of relief, of everybody who could catch me, it was Kirtanta.

She was a perky young woman, but she was also easily and stupidly gullible.

"Why are you here?" She asked. "I don't recall Razer approving your stay here."

Wow, she makes it sound like this is a five star hotel.

"Actually... he did," I replied. "Can I go see him?"

Kirtanta shook her head. "Sorry, no can do," she said. "He's gone on an expedition."

I nodded. "Well, I'm here to see Kyle," I said. "Can you tell me where he is?"

"Over in that gray house," Kirtanta told me, pointing to the house.

"Thank you," I said, handing her a diamond and running off.

"OOH! SHINY!!!!!" I heard her yell from the distance.

I walked over to my friend's house and entered in, not even bothering to knock.

"Didn't anybody teach you how to knock?" I heard someone ask.

"Kyle! How are you doing?"

Kyle just shrugged, which I assumed meant that he was okay.

"Is Sheila here?" He asked.

"No, I didn't bring her with me." I answered.

Kyle just stared vacantly at the wall.

"Kyle?" I asked. "You there, buddy?"

"Why now?" He asked hoarsely.

I blinked. "What do you mean, why now?" 

"Why are you visiting me now?"

Confused, I shook my head. "I just wanted to check on you," I replied. "I wanted to see how my best friend was doing."

Kyle laughed, but it was a laugh of somebody not believing me.

"So after all this time, now you ask how I'm doing?" He repeated.

I nodded.

"Yeah...?" I said, awkwardly.

"After all this time?!" Kyle asked, spinning around to stare at me. "You're saying after I've been dead for six months, now you want to see if I'm okay?!"

I froze, shocked.

"I-I can't believe it," he said. "What am I to you?! A pity object because you didn't have a girlfriend? Because it sure feels like it after you basically tossed me away after you got a girlfriend!"

"Kyle! You're my best friend!" I told him. 

"HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW, ALEX?" Kyle screamed. "I WAS HAPPY FOR YOU AND SHEILA, I TRULY WAS! BUT AFTER YOU TWO STARTED DATING, I WAS PUSHED OFF TO THE SIDE, FORGOTTEN! YOU RARELY EVEN ASKED ME HOW I WAS DOING! I WAS GROWING DEPRESSED, BUT YOU DIDN'T CARE! WHEN I PUNCHED THAT WINDOW, YOU NEVER CHECKED ON ME! WHEN I KILLED MYSELF, YOU MOURNED, BUT NEVER TRAVELED TO THE UNDERWORLD TO VISIT ME AND ASK IF I WAS GETTING BETTER! WHAT THE HELL, ALEX?!"

"I did come here," I told him. "I broke in just to see you..."

"Bullshit!" He snapped. "You only broke in because you're scared of Razer!"

I opened my mouth but no words came out.

"I was right..." he said. "I-I thought maybe you were my friend but..."

Now I was starting to get pissed off at him. Why couldn't Kyle see my side of the story?

I opened my mouth and the forbidden words came out.

"AT LEAST I'M NOT YOU!" I shouted. "AT LEAST I'M NOT A TRAITOR!"

Kyle gasped and then he started to shout at me.

"AT LEAST I DON'T DITCH MY BEST FRIEND LIKE YOU DO, LIAM!"

I felt my whole body tense.

Did he just call me Liam?

"You son of a bitch..." I whispered.

And that was  when I punched him right in the mouth.
