Moon's POV

If there was one thing I kept wondering... one thing that was still bothering me...

It was what's my purpose in all of this?

I felt like I had almost no reason to be here, trying to stop the Overseer.

Ember was the Chosen One, the one destined to destroy the Overseer.

Rain and Stella? They both had a destiny... one to rule an entire dimension.

Out of all of us, I was the only one not to have a fancy title or some kind of amazing destiny.

I was just... there.

I wasn't sure what to do. All I felt like was that I was only there because I was Ember's girlfriend, and nothing else about me was important.

"Sorry for disrupting your studies," I said apologetically.

"Don't be," Stella replied, putting a black book away. "I'm always willing to have a conversation with you."

I smiled, Stella was the one person I could trust not to laugh at me.

"So, tell me, what's bothering you?"

I sighed. "I'm conflicted," I told her. "Te three of you... you all have some type of amazing destiny."

Stella nodded, listening.

"And, I'm just me. I'm nothing special... Ember's destined to destroy the Overseer, and you're going to rule the End alongside Rain."

"Are you jealous?" Stella asked.

Jealous? I... never thought of it that way.

"Yeah," I relied, reluctantly. "I guess I am."

Stella didn't say anything, she just continued to listen to me.

"I mean, you all have a destiny already planned for you. It's just so hard... to be normal."

"Destiny doesn't work like that," Stella said. "Just because we're told were going to do one thing... doesn't mean it's true."

I looked surprised. "Really?" I asked.

The hybrid nodded. "If you were told that you were going to murder everyone you loved... would you accept that?"

"NO!" I yelled, then lowered my voice. "Of course not, that's ridiculous."

"Maybe Rain and Ember have decided on their destinies," Stella said. "But honestly? I wish I could be in your shoes right now."

Now, that surprised me. "Why?" I asked. "Why would you want to feel this way? Unsure of your role in this whole plot?"

I was quite aware of some construction workers running over to fix the fourth wall.

"Because I already know what my role is," Stella said. "And I'm not sure I like it."

I didn't say anything, not at first. I was trying to wrap my head around why Stella would want to be the kid who tags along while the heroes do the real stuff.

"I... was told of a prophecy," Stella admitted. "About me."

"Oh come on!" I complained. "I never get any cool prophecies about me!"

Stella rolled her eyes a bit. "Moon, this isn't a prophecy that you'd like. There's a reason why I turned into a demon."

"There is?!" I asked.

Stella winced, then nodded. "When I was traveling, Abigail told me of some nightmares she was having before I turned," she told me. "She said the Nether Star prophesied my coming... a kin of the witches. She said if my power continued to grow, I'd be a threat to all dimensions."

I could almost laugh. Stella was probably the nicest one out of all of us. I couldn't imagine her destroying an entire universe.

Or... could she? A voice whispered in the back of my head. She's more dangerous than people think.

But it's Stella, another part if my mind argued.

You've seen how dangerous she gets when she fights.

But she fights to protect us!

She's scared of herself! She's worried how others will act once they find out that she could destroy them all! Even she doesn't believe she's safe! She fears her own power... just like you should fear her.

Shut up!

Her mental health isn't improving... just one push will be all it takes for her to snap...

"Moon?!" Stella asked, shaking me. "Are you okay?!"

I jolted awake. "Yeah," I replied, yawning. "Sorry, I'm just tired."

Stella laughed a little. "There's a guest bedroom," she said. "You can sleep in there tonight."

"Thanks," I mumbled, heading upstairs, listening as Stella hummed quietly.

Stella is my best friend, I reminded myself. I trust her, she'd never hurt me or any of us.

But even then, I still had a small seed of doubt in my mind.

A seed that was whispering danger... danger...
