Devon's POV

"Devon?" Stella gasped.

"Stella?" I replied, equally as shocked.

"Lance is your dad?" She asked.

I nodded. "He is," I replied. "Why? Do you two know each other?"

"Yeah," she answered. "This is the asshole who's been calling me sexy."

I gave my dad a disgusted look. "Wow dad, are you really that desperate that you tried to flirt with a girl who's at least eighteen years old?"

"Shut up!" My father shouted, and before I could react, I felt a sharp pain in the face.

Lance had slapped me.

I stumbled backwards, my eyes rimming with tears.

My father glared at me. "Devon, I am your father! You're supposed to obey me and carry out every command I give you!"

And yet you never said you were proud of me, I thought. Even when I killed Ceris and exiled Stella.

Never once did you say you loved me.

Actually, I'm pretty sure you said you hated me once.

Am I not good enough for you?

I don't think I am.

"Dev?"

Stella was giving me a look of sadness and sympathy.

"You don't have to listen to him," she said. "He doesn't care for you, it's pretty obvious that you're just a pawn to him."

"He's family," I croaked out. "I want him to care for me."

"But is this what you want?" She asked.

I didn't move, didn't say anything.

"You know, I'm not sure how you became a leader in the first place," Lance said. "Leaders are supposed to exile and execute people..."

"So... what are you saying?" Stella asked. "You want me to start exiling and executing as many people there is."

"That would be..." Lance replied slowly. "Your job as Queen."

"Bullshit,"

Lance grimaced, clearly trying not to get mad.

From behind Stella, another Netherkin stumbled to her feet. She pulled out some staff, and leapt at my dad.

"BITCH!!!" She screamed.

"A-Abigail!" Stella gasped.

"NO!" I screamed, pulling out Lance's spell book that I may or may have not stolen, but that's not important.

Flipping to a page at a rapid and illogical speed, I found a spell that would protect all of us and also piss of my dad, but that's also not important.

Mumbling some random nonsense under my breath, I aimed the spell right at my dad.

Lance hadn't noticed me at all, he was too busy getting ready to send Abigail to the Dream World.

Then, all of a sudden, Lance began to glow.

And in his place was...

A frog.

"What the..." Stella mumbled, staring at the frog who was giving us an undignified look.

"Hey GORF!" I said, jokingly, as I scooped him up. "Guess you're not going to cause any more harm."

Abigail put her weapon away. "You should've let me kill him," she said.

I shook my head. "He's family," I whispered. "He sucks, but he's all I have."

"You can come back to the End," Stella offered. "We'll be fair to you."

I gave her a sad smile. "Thank you," I said. "But I want to stay here. If my father learns how to change back... I'm the only one who can prevent him from doing so."

GORF glared at me.

"But if you ever do need me," I said. "Just call or something."

Stella smiled. "Got it," she said.

"C'mon," Abigail said. "Our work here is done."

"See you later, Dev," Stella said.

"You too," I replied, as the two of them left.

Minutes after they were gone, I turned to GORF.

"Thank you for hating me," I told him.

Hours later

Suddenly, somebody walked in.

"Master?" I gasped.

"Devon, you traitor!" The Overseer screamed. "You helped those girls?!"

I staggered backwards.

GORF began jumping up and down.

"Punish Devon!" He yelled, which shocked me because I thought he wouldn't be able to speak. "He does not deserve to be called my son!"

The Overseer glared at him. "Silence fool," he said. "You're just as bad, actually, you're quite annoying! Perhaps I will kill you as well!"

"W-wait! Don't!" My father begged, just as the Overseer caused him to melt in a puddle of goo.

I began to run, but before I could get far, I was levitated into the air at an alarming rate.

The Overseer than flew up to me with a sinister smile.

"YOU'RE A MONSTER!" I screamed. "I CAN'T BELIEVE I ACTUALLY HELPED YOU! YOU DON'T DESERVE WHAT YOU HAVE! IT'S GOING TO COST YOU EVERYTHING! BUT I GUESS FOR A MONSTER LIKE YOU, IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LOSE AS LONG AS YOU HAVE POWER AND AS LONG AS OTHERS FEAR YOU!"

"Have fun," he said, as I suddenly dropped out of the sky.

I screamed at the top of my lungs, but the wind carried it away.

Power? Yes, I need power.

And fear helps as well.

But I also need a host...

And I know exactly who.

He was once a loyal servant and the others still don't trust him.

If I could just possess his body...
