Rain's POV

"Where is she?!"

We all looked at Ember, who looked so confused.

"Ember," Moon said quietly. "I'm sorry, but Ash died."

Ember just stared at her. "No," he whispered.

"We haven't buried her," I told him. "We wanted you to see her one last time."

"No! No!" He screamed. "Tell me you're lying!"

I shook my head. "I'm sorry,"

Ember yelled something in despair before turning around and running off.

"Ember! Wait!" Moon yelled, but Sheila grabbed her hand.

"Wait," she said. "Let him cool down. I understand how he feels, trust me."

Moon stopped pulling away with an angry glint in her eyes.

"Fine," she grumbled.

I remembered when I first met Ember. He was just a light hearted jokester, always making puns  and stupid mistakes.

Kind of like how Daryll has thousands of Pazura pictures in a scrapbook.

Yeah, I still haven't told Patrick about those.

He annoyed me so much that sometimes I just wanted to kill him.

But just like the seasons, we change as well.

Ember was no exception.

Ember has gotten smarter and more mature, and less annoying now.

But at the same time, he's more broken, he gets angrier now, as if the effects of this war has really become a burden to him.

Not to mention that everybody seems to depend on him to defeat the Overseer.

He has lost so many loved ones and yet he keeps pushing forward.

Maybe he overwhelmed me once, but now I truly see that he's loyal and selfless, putting others before himself.

And once, in a life that seems so long ago, he was happy as well.

And now he wears a smile that no longer quite reaches his face.

The past Ember annoyed me.

The new Ember broke my heart.

And, I would never think I'd say this but...

If I had to choose between the annoying Ember or the mature Ember, I would choose the annoying Ember in a heartbeat.
