Chapter Six

The next morning, I couldn't deny the fact that the compound was actually pretty boring. But it was slightly less boring upside down.

Diego and Marcel were busy recruiting new vamps. Though it was rare, sometimes, the humans that they feed from and heal end up dying. They get drunk and take a header off a bridge or a roof. Hey, it's New Orleans. It happens more often than you think. They die with vampire blood in their systems, so they wake up as one of the undead.

Thierry had gone off on his own a while ago. Marcel told me that he had a thing for one of the witches, so he was probably with her.

I was sitting on a couch in one of the many living rooms in the compound. I had my legs up on the back of the couch, my feet hanging off it. I had my head resting where my calves would usually be. I was staring at a now upside-down version of a copy of "The Last Supper".

I had assumed that I was alone. But apparently not.

I felt fingers run along the arches of my feet, and I screamed before doing a somersault off the couch. I heard a loud laugh that I had come to know quite well.

"Thierry!" I whined. "Is it suddenly your job to annoy me?!"

He came out from behind the couch with a grin on his face. "Yep, Marcel actually pays me now." He said sarcastically.

I sighed, standing up. "What do you want?"

He chuckled again. "I was wondering if you wanted to come down to Rousseau's with me."

"Rousseau's?" I raised a brow at him.

"It's a bar in the quarter. I usually go there with Diego and Marcel, but neither of them are around so..." He smiled at me.

I smirked. "So I'm third-best?"

"More like 20th."

"Oh, go die in a hole." I muttered as we exited the room, heading towards the doors of the compound.

"Too late," He smirked, winking at me. "I'm already dead."

Later on, I was sitting beside Thierry in the bar. "Is it even possible for a vampire to get drunk?" I giggled as I watched Thierry down another shot.

"I sure as hell am getting close." Thierry laughed, hiccuping afterwards.

To be honest, I was surprised that he hadn't gotten alcohol poisoning yet. He had drank four glasses of bourbon, seven shots of tequila, and almost five bottles of vodka. All of that in less than three hours.

I decided to take him back to the compound, then take a walk as it started to get darker.

I walked into one of the less busy streets of the quarter, deciding that I would pay Davina a visit. I headed towards the church, when I began to feel a strange sense of power. It wasn't my power, it was something else. But it was... Different. It was dark.

I walked up the steps of the church slowly, pushing the heavy wooden door open. I stood in the doorway, staring at the empty church silently.

Something was here.

Something happened here, and it wasn't good.

I moved forwards, walking down the aisle of the church. I glanced between the pews, as if to make sure that there wasn't something evil lurking in them. Maybe I was paranoid.
