Chapter Fourty-Nine

Elijah laid his brother onto his bed, watching over him silently for a while.

It was an hour or so before Cami finally got here, I suspected that she hadn't checked her phone in a while. I heard a murmur of the vampires outside when she came in, wondering what on earth a human was doing here.

"Camille," I called out, coming outside and meeting her there with Elijah following close behind.

She came forwards. "Why did you call me? Have you found a way to help my uncle?"

"I can try," Elijah said.

"We need your help, Camille. Right now," I said.

"I don't have time for games, Rose! The hex on him is getting worse by the day!"

"My brother has a mystical torture device buried in his chest, and the mother of his child is inexplicably missing, so I can assure you, we have no time to play any games either," Elijah stated, growing more and more frustrated with her.

She finally gave in. "What do you need me to do?"

We brought her to Nik as Elijah removed his suit jacket and began to roll up his sleeve. I sighed a little when I saw the bowl that he had brought to the room, which had a scalpel and a towel in it.

"The dagger the witch gave me is inside of him?" she said, now very confused.

"And every second it remains causes Niklaus untold suffering," he replied.

"Who stabbed him?"

"I did," Elijah said, causing Cami's eyes to widen. "And now I intend to remove it," he walked over to Nik, his sleeve now rolled up all the way. "You might want to take a step back."

I climbed onto the bed, taking the scalpel from Elijah. I had taken studied to be a surgeon in the seventies, so I had a steady hand.

"Why am I here?" she asked.

"Well, because out of all the people that could be here, you and Roseia are probably the only ones he wouldn't immediately slaughter," he muttered.

I sliced Klaus' chest open, following the dark pink lines that had formed in the spot where the knife was buried.

"Also, he speaks of you with," he paused, shoving his hand right into the wound I had created. "What is a rare degree-for him, at least-of respect. I can see you challenge him to see himself and others in a new light," he said, grunting a little while he continued to search the inside of his brother's chest for the dagger. When he finished the sentence, he conveniently grabbed hold of the dagger, yanking it right out.

Klaus groaned out in agony, calming slightly afterwards. The pain was probably beginning to fade now the blade was gone.

Elijah set the dagger down on the bowl that I held out to him. "A wonderful skill that I shall be counting on very shortly. You see, Niklaus will be weak as he recovers. So, watch over him and feed him, if you would. But slowly, please, and from your wrist."
