Chapter Eighty-Three

The next day, it seemed that Klaus was determined to somehow convince his brothers that it was in their best interest to be peaceful. And yet, he did this while he still had them chained. Klaus told me that he didn't want me to be around those two, just in case they did manage to get free. I would find some other way to speak to the two of them later on.

For now, I would just listen carefully to their conversation. Vampire hearing was amazingly helpful when eavesdropping.

Finn was trying his hardest to annoy Klaus and Elijah, while Kol was almost completely silent.

"She was trying to make you mortal again!" Finn shouted. "But you both refused her. It only proves how far you've fallen. But, I expect Rebekah will have a different response to her proposal. See, unlike the two of you, she always did cling to her humanity."

Elijah had an angered tone with his next words. "Rebekah is off limits to you. You pursue her, and you will suffer."

"Do not let him goad you, Elijah. Neither he, nor Esther, will find Rebekah unless she wants to be found. And she does not."

"Esther is quite determined," he said. "You know, Roseia has always held on to her humanity as well. I wonder how she will take to Esther's offer. Of course, Esther wouldn't have to go very far to find her, would she? Seeing how she's right in this building?"

That one really made the two of them lose it. Klaus began to growl, and I heard a chair hit the ground behind one of the brothers. A hiss followed, along with the screams of Finn.

I rushed down to the dining room, and the sight before me was almost shocking. Finn was sprawled across the table, writhing with pain while Elijah had his fangs deep into his brother's neck. I had thought that Klaus would be the one trying to kill his sibling, but it was Elijah. Had he lost control?

I ran forwards and pulled Elijah off of Finn, beating Klaus to it. I dragged him out into the hallway, and shoved him up against the wall. He growled a little, the veins not disappearing from his eyes. He tried to go back to the dining room, but I pushed him against the wall a second time.

"Elijah, it's alright," I told him. "They can't hurt me, and they can't hurt Rebekah either."

His breathing slowed when his eyes met mine. The veins disappeared, and he exhaled a deep breath, calming down.

Klaus came out into the hallway, seeming slightly frustrated with Elijah.

"I enjoy a good bloodletting as much as anyone," Klaus said, removing the handkerchief from Elijah's own breast pocket and handing it to him. Elijah wiped the blood off of his lips before Klaus continued. "But our brothers have power, as well as knowledge of Esther's plans."

"Imagine what they would do to Rebekah, to hope," he looked over at me, and licked his lips. "To Roseia."

"Rebekah has been cloaked by powerful magic, as well as Hope. And as for Rose, she doesn't really need very much protection, now, does she?" Klaus said. "Focus on the task at hand," he lowered his voice, whispering a little. "We need to persuade our brothers."
