Chapter One Hundred & Twenty-Five

"Elijah!" I called out, walking into the gym/church thing Marcel had made while still looking down at the invitation with a small amount of concern and shock. "We have a minor issue-"

I was cut off by the sound of the chain of the punching bag snapping, and the bag hitting and promptly knocking over a bench.

"Did I come at a bad time?" I asked, smiling a little.

"Of course not," he said, sighing softly and getting a towel so that he could wipe off the thin layer of sweat that had formed on his face and the back of his neck.

"Well, just so you know, Tristan seems to want you to come to his little Halloween party," I said, pouting a little. "It seems just like him to ruin my favourite holiday..."

He chuckled a little, then took the card from me.

"I didn't think he was the kind of person to refer to people as 'chum', either..." I snickered.

His smile slowly faded, and he let out an exasperated breath. "I'm not sure if we-"

"We should. We definitely should."

He raised a brow. "Are you telling me that you are actually eager to spend more than thirty seconds being in the same building as Tristan de Martel?"

"Yes," I muttered, crossing my arms over my chest. "I just have a bad feeling about all of this, that's all. The prophecy, I mean. I think that Tristan and Lucien have more information, and we need to find out exactly who we should trust. Klaus can handle Lucien, we can see what we can get out of Tristan."

"Tristan doesn't give up information easily, Roseia," Elijah muttered, shoving the card into the pocket of his sweat pants. "I will go, but you should feel no obligation to do so."

"You think I'm leaving you stuck alone in a party full of egotistical sociopaths?" I smirked a little. "I'm not that mean, darling. Surely my presence will make that torture a little easier to handle?"

He grinned. "Of course."

We decided to go back to the compound, and found Freya doing some yoga in the living room while Klaus was talking to her, complaining about not knowing who she was bringing into the building for her nights of fun. He turned to us, a small and mischievous smile on his face.

"Oh, look! It's my not-so-loving elder brother, and my best mate who threw me down a flight of stairs! What a perfectly normal family gathering," he grinned.

I rolled my eyes. "Yes, and here is my idiotic friend who I'm half tempted to throw off a building this time."

He smirked.

"Elijah and I are going out tonight. It would be nice if you could keep an eye on Lucien for a while."

"Oooh! You two haven't had a date night in a long while, where are you planning to go?" he smirked, feigning interest in what we were doing.

"That is none of your concern, dear brother," Elijah said from behind me, just about done with Klaus' presence. "Do as Roseia says and go see Lucien. Now."

Klaus rolled his eyes, and promptly left the room.

Authoritative Elijah is one of my favourite Elijah's. I smirked a little at that thought.

I rummaged through Rebekah's old dresses, trying to find one that I deemed appropriate for such an occasion. I hated dresses most of the time, but Rebekah had amazing style. It wasn't hard to find one I liked.

I heard Elijah clear his throat, and looked behind me to see him leaning against the doorframe. I saw that he had his tux on, and I swallowed.

"I don't believe I've ever told you how amazing you look in a tux, Elijah," I said.

He smirked a little, then walked forwards. "And I don't think I've ever told you just how ravishing you look in the colour Black... May I?" he asked.

I nodded, and he searched through Rebekah's dresses until he found the one he was looking for. It was black with a tight-fitting waist, and lace sleeves that went past the elbows.

"Do you like this one?" he asked.

"Yes, I most certainly do," I grinned. "You know me well, my love."

He chuckled, while I went behind the screen that was near the bed in my room and removed my clothes, then slipped the dress on and still spoke to him as I did so.

"I have to admit, I always found it rather amusing that you created an entire society of vampires just because you were bored."

I looked over my bare shoulder to see him smiling ever so slightly. "Well, I certainly shouldn't have allowed that boredom to get to me, seeing how every single one of them ended up being arrogant and egocentric imbeciles."

"Don't worry," I said, smiling. "We will act as we always do, Elijah. If there is a threat, we will simply remove it. The Strix are no exception, as long as you are fine with ruining those lovely suits."

"You know as well as I that our family is no stranger to doing whatever is necessary, no matter how violent those measures may be," he said.

"True," I agreed.

"But you must know that this night may not go over as well as we believe, Roseia," he said. "I am not entirely sure if you should attend this event."

I finished getting dressed, and walked out from behind the screen.

"I can handle myself. You know that rather well."

His eyes widened ever so slightly when he saw me, and I felt heat rise in my cheeks. I smiled a little.

"We'll be fine. We always are, right?" I said.

"Of course," he said, having recovered from the apparent shock, then put out his hand for me. "Now, we have a party to get to."

I took his hand in mine, and we left the compound, both with an uneasy feeling. But we were both courageous. We were strong, especially when together. We put each other at ease.

Hopefully that would be enough for tonight.
