--------------------------------------------------------

Slowly, I stirred awake to someone lightly shaking me.

''Come along Aspen, It is time to head inside'' Emory's familiar low accented voice murmured nearby.

As I slowly started to get out of Emory's car, I realized, I hadn't been alarmed or anything when I woke up.

Is that. . . A good sign?

Hesitantly, I followed behind Emory like a lost puppy.

Reaching my hand up, I covered a yawn as I waited for Emory to unlock the front door so we all could get inside.

My shoulders were hunched slightly as I shivered faintly, It was way colder out, Partly because Emory's car was warm and sheltered from the biting wind.

As soon as the door was opened, Emory ushered me inside.

I hung close to the wall as Emory locked up and started to make his way further into his home before pausing and glancing back at me.

''Aspen?'' He questioned, Arching an eyebrow as he waited for me to join him.

Glancing down at the ground, I moved to join him.

As soon as I was close to him, I stayed as close to his side as I could.

I was feeling some. . .Mixed feelings. . .About him and how I acted around him.

Seeing Dimitri and his soulmates. . .I couldn't help but wonder. . .Does Emory want lovey dovey soulmates? Does he want a relationship like theirs?

Could I be like that for him?. . .He's been more than kind to me. . .More than patient. . .

Hesitantly, I reached my hand out towards his, Cautiously grabbing onto his hand in a weary and very loose grip.

I could feel him watching me as I kept my gaze on the ground below.

We both were just standing still in the hallway by now.

Our hands held loosely together.

Slowly, Cautiously, I started to lean closer towards him, Unsure what I was doing or what I should be doing but just 'going with it'.

Eventually, I wrapped my arms around him, Resting my head on his chest as I timidly hugged him.

I could feel the tension slowly leave him, Revealing how still he was forcing himself to remain as I tried all of this.

Closing my eyes, I kept my face buried in his chest for a long while, Emory's arms slowly moved to wrap around my shoulders, Holding me in a loose hug.

''Emory?'' I questioned quietly, Catching his attention.

Sighing, I hesitantly pulled back from his embrace, Keeping my eyes trained on the ground.

''Could. . .I possibly. . .Um. . .Kiss you?'' I questioned, My voice barely a whisper at the end.

As soon as those words left my mouth, Silence filled the air between the both of us for a long while.

Slowly, Emory reached his hands up to gently cup my face.

''Of course'' He murmured, Leaning down enough so that If I were to lean forward, I'd be able to press my lips to his.

I glanced towards his lips, Then to the ground before closing my eyes, And quickly placing a little kiss on said lips before backing off.

My face was burning by the time I stepped out of his arms, More than a little embarrassed over the simple little kiss.

''Um. . .T-Thanks'' I whispered quietly, Nervously wrapping my arms around myself.

He's not saying anything. . .Is he mad? Did I do something wrong by kissing him?

The speed at which my brain went from one line of thinking to another was making me feel like I might get whiplash.

Emory hesitantly approached me before gently kissing me on my forehead.

''Come, Let us get some supper then head to bed'' Emory murmured, His voice warm and low.

Nodding sheepishly, I followed behind him, Calming down as I realized, He wasn't acting differently, He didn't appear to be upset.

He wasn't mad at me. . .

Following him into the cozy kitchen, I sat down on one of the chairs as Emory went to prepare some food for both of us.

Closing my eyes, A small sigh left me.

---

Soft tree leaves rustled all around me as I sat at the edge of the swampy river.

The small cluster of four trees sat across from me, The willow which had once been covered by mushrooms was starting to look a lot healthier.

It still had a few mushrooms and toadstools on it's branches and roots, But it didn't look nearly as bad anymore.

The tall sturdy tree closest to it, Now had it's branches intertwined with the willow's thin ones.

I didn't know why I was here, But I did know I wasn't alone here.

Something moved at the edge of my vision every now and then.

As much as I wanted to look, To see what was moving about, I couldn't.

I was unable to look away from the four trees in front of me, I couldn't move, Not even a finger.

As weary as I was, I oddly enough wasn't afraid.

I felt safe.

Maybe it was because of my day spent with Emory. . .Maybe it was because whatever was moving wasn't a threat to me.

It didn't matter anyways since I couldn't do anything.

Watching on, I saw the trees slowly start to move.

It was like something was knocking the other smaller tree away from the willow and it's friend.

After what felt like mere seconds, The two smaller trees were now shielded from each other by the two bigger ones.

The whole forest felt. . .Grim all of a sudden.

---

Slowly, My eyes opened.

I was laying out on the couch, A fuzzy blanket covering me, A warm crackling fire was burning in the nearby fireplace, Lighting the room in flickering colors.

Stretching out, My hands bumped into someone else sitting on the couch as well.

Looking up, I was surprised to see Emory.

That wasn't really the surprising part.

The surprising part was the fact that he was sleeping sitting up, A book held loosely in his hand.

His features were softened by sleep and the flickering light of the fire.

He looked so calm, Peaceful and relaxed.

I. . .Like this look on him. . .
