21. Quarry of hell

Stefan's P.O.V

I don't understand what is happening to me. It's like I am living 1864 again. I can't tell if it's past or present time. I'm sweating, feeling weak and hot and can't open my eyes.

Flashback Woods 1864

The men are capturing vampires all around the town. Everything is going crazy. Even Damon and I have to hide behind a tree trunk to save Katherine who is in one of those carriage. Father doesn't know where my brother and I are but it's better like this. The carriage we have been following for minutes now stopped as men arrive with another vampire. Damon and I watch the scene from our hide.

- We have to get to the church. They're waiting, screams one of the man. They all get to different directions.

- Circle around that way. I'll distract them. Go, I whisper pushing lightly my brother. He runs to go around the carriage so nobody will see him. I stand up and scream to the group of men. Over here! There's another one! Quick! Help me!

- Arm yourselves, says Jonathan Gilbert to the men.

They follow me through the woods but a single man is standing guard over the carriage containing the vampires. I guide the men the farthest I can before running back to Damon, hoping they'll all stay there long enough for us to get Katherine out. When I arrived to the carriage, Damon hits the man guarding it and knocks him out. My brother grabs the keys out of the man's pocket and unlocks the carriage when I arrive beside him.

- We don't have long, I warn him as I feel nervous if those men come back quickly.

- Katherine. Katherine, calls Damon as we both see her laying weakly on the floor of the carriage with a muzzle over her face.

I help Damon lifting Katherine out of the carriage before we untie her and take off the muzzle that covers her mouth. God, that must be horrible.

- We're going to get you out of here, I tell her while she comes back slowly to her and looks at me and my brother. Damon, hurry. Hurry. Damon unties her hands when all of a sudden, he is shot at. I rush over my brother's side, panic, when I see him dying under my eyes. No! No. Damon. I stand up and grab the gun the guard had... but I wasn't fast enough. A bullet hits me and I fall on the ground, the pain in my stomach making it more and more difficult to breath. I look at Damon and then Katherine who are both laying on the ground as well.

- Come on. Let's go, screams a man to the others.

- Uhh! I groan, letting my "last" breath out.

End of the Flashback

- Stefan. Stefan, calls me, Damon. That's impossible.... How?

- I love you, Stefan, tells me Katherine... or Elena. Why do I see both of them? I can't tell if I'm in 1864 or in 2010. I see Katherine being taken back into the carriage. But I also see Damon leading Elena out of the cell. Another face appear and I immediately recognize it.

- dad, it's going to be alright. You'll be alright, I promise you, tells Gillian with tears in her eyes. I love you so much daddy, she says her hand placed on my cheek. She takes it off and exits the cell as well.

Gillian's P.O.V.

I exit the cell and Damon closes the door behind me. Elena looks at my father through the bars while Damon and I stand a bit on the side. I wipe the tears under my eyes and take a deep breath. I feel like it's all I've been doing for the past few days. Elena is still watching my father in the cell when Damon passes his arm over my shoulder.
