30. A mask can't cover everything

Caroline's P.O.V.

I am sitting on the Salvatore couch in the living room of the boarding house when Damon gives me a glass of blood. God, I'm still shaken up.

- Here, tells Damon handing me the glass.

- I'm still shaking, I tell him when I hear and see Stefan and Gillian entering the room. Gillian comes sitting on the couch at the opposite of me.

- What happened? Questions Stefan frowning confusedly.

- Go ahead, tell them. You're gonna love this, brother, smirks Damon. I watch Gillian frowning confused at her uncle before she stares at my glass. Weird.

- I saw Katherine today, when I say that, Stefan arcs his brows and Gillian looks up at me, frowning madly.

- Where? Questions the youngest Salvatore.

- At the Grill. I just stopped by to gawk and... quasi-stalk Matt. I entered it, Matt saw me and asked me if I wanted a table. I told him no and made a excuse.... I explain them when Damon cuts me.

- Skip the teen drama and get to it, I roll my eyes to Damon's comment.

- Then I had to pretend to use the bathroom even though I didn't really have to go because I'm a doofus. I entered it and saw Elena. I mean, I knew it wasn't her because Elena told me she was home so it was obvious that the girl standing behind me was Katherine. I tried to vamp-speed passed her but she blocked my way asked me what gave her up, the three vampires keep staring at me, listening closely to what I'm telling them. Then, she told me to deliver a message to all of you, I look at them one by one, frowning sadly and scared. Stefan looks quickly at Gillian who keeps staring at me, before he exchanges a worried glance with Damon.

- What was the message? Questions the youngest Salvatore brother.

- she said: "Tell Damon and Stefan that I want the moonstone or I will rip this town apart until it rains blood", I announced sadly and definitely scared.

- Tell him the rest of it, says Damon staring down at me.

- Tonight, at the masquerade ball, I look down at my glass, hurt. I know everyone will be there. I know Matt will be there, and I'm scared.

- and? I look back up at the oldest brother before staring at Gillian. This one frowns questioningly at me.

- what? She asks me, sounding nervous.

- she said that you better enjoy the masquerade because we never know what can happen, the green eyes girl shakes her head with disbelief before standing up and leaving the room, she exchanges a look with her father. Stefan tries to hold her back but he fails. I hear him sighing before looking at his brother.

- She wants to do it in public. Killing Mason threw her off guard, replies Stefan while shaking his head.

- She's running scared. What she did to Jenna was desperate. She's out of tricks, responds Damon as he does his eyes thing.

- We can't underestimate her. We have to play this smarter than her.

- Can we just give her the moonstone so she'll leave? I ask, tired of all of this. I'm tired of her being a threat to everyone, especially to Matt. She scares me.

- No, Katherine's not getting dick. I've had it, answers Damon, walking around the couch I am sitting on. I'm gonna go to the masquerade ball and I'm gonna kill her, tonight, smirks the vampire with raven hair.
