Dear Future Husband,

When I was ten, I wrote the ultimate checklist for marrying my husband some day.

It listed nine steps for physical contact, the emotional milestones that came with it, and were listed as followed:

Step One: Touching (accidental arm brush, bump, etc.)

Step Two: High five

Step Three: Friend Hug

Step Four: Hand holding

Step Five: Girlfriend/ boyfriend hug (because the two hugs are different)

Step Six: Kiss on cheek/ hand/ forehead/ anything but the mouth

Step Seven: Kissing on the lips

Step Eight: Cuddles! (Translated from ten year old speak: Sex)

Step Nine: Marriage

Steps one through three encompassed the friend zone, four through six were the precursors to dating, seven was dating, eight was sort of a grey area, and nine was pretty self explanatory.

There were substeps within them, but those were always my core beliefs for the series of events things should go through to properly determine your standing with a boy. It's silly, but I've always been one for having an order for things and it always seemed to work out right.

Someday I will go through all of these steps with you. I will high five you and hold your hand and inevitably marry you, and it's crazy to think that someday you will complete all nine steps. Through all of the boys that have barely made it past step five, through all of the doubting that someone right for me even exists, we will complete all nine steps, even the big step eight.

I want to go through all of the steps with you.

Xoxo, Alina
