Word Count: 1200

It wasn't difficult for you to see that Sadie wasn't acting like herself. You knew that Sadie could be a little hotheaded but she had been snapping at people more than usual, so most people had been avoiding her and giving her some distance. She wasn't joining in with the usual camp activities and she hadn't spoken to you much recently.

Normally the pair of you spent most of your time together but Sadie had been spending most of her time alone. You had seen Arthur ask Sadie if she was okay but that ended up with Arthur walking away in surrender. You cared about Sadie a lot and you wanted to get to the bottom of why she was acting so unlike herself, you were hoping that you could cheer her up. You hoped that she would talk to you and open up to you, you hoped that she wouldn't send you away like she did with Arthur.

Sadie was on the outskirts of the camp, away from all the others. Her shoulder was leaning against a tree with her arms crossed over her chest. You frowned to yourself before walking over to her, you hated seeing her like this.

"Hey, Sadie" you smiled softly and spoke cautiously as you approached her.

"Hey, Y/N" Sadie nodded at you, definitely sounding sadder than usual. In fact, you're pretty sure that she let out a tired sigh.

"Do you want to go for a walk?" you asked, hoping to get her away from the camp where she might open up to you. She looked at you and paused for a moment before nodded and pushing herself away from the tree.

You smiled as you and Sadie began to walk away from the camp, disappearing among the trees together. Sadie didn't speak as the pair of you walked together so you knew that you would have to speak first, even if you thought that she wasn't in the mood for conversation.

"You don't have to talk about it or anything but...I cant tell that something is bothering you. You aren't acting like yourself. I just want you to know that I am here for you and if you want to talk...you can tell me anything" you told her, not wanting to push her into talking about anything but also wanting to let her know that she could talk to you if she wanted too.

"...thank you, Y/N, but I wouldn't want you to worry about it" Sadie sighed, making you think that there was something more to what was upsetting her. She felt like she couldn't tell you about it for some reason.

"Sometimes it's good to talk about things, and I would like to listen if you wanted to talk" you assured her, making sure she knew that you only wanted to help her.

"Alright...I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want it to bother you but I suppose you should know" she nodded, as she looked at you. With just one look into your eyes she knew that she could trust you, you instantly put her at ease.

"Sadie...what's wrong?" you asked, growing a little more concerned about her. Why was she so worried about tell you?

"It's Jake's birthday" Sadie sighed and you suddenly realised why she had been so upset recently. You understood why this had been bothering her so much.

"Today?" you asked, not sure how to react to this information.

"No, yesterday...it's been a rough week" she explained as the pair of you continued to walk through the trees.

"Why didn't you tell me? We could have done something. I don't know what, we could've paid our respects to him or I could have at least been there for you..." you asked, you just wished that you could have helped her in some way. You reached out and took her hand in yours, causing you both to come to a halt.

"I was worried that it would upset you...that you might feel some jealously or insecurity..." Sadie explained. She had been worried that you wouldn't like how she still got so emotional over her dead husband, she didn't want it to make you uncomfortable or anything. But, of course, that wasn't how you felt at all.

"Sadie...Jake was, is, your husband. You love him and I know that but I also know that you love me. Jake sounds like an amazing man, I am truly sorry that you lost him" you smiled comfortingly. Of course you had felt like you couldn't compare to Jake when you first started your relationship with Sadie but you soon learnt that it wasn't a problem and that it really didn't bother you. You knew that Sadie loved you as much as you loved her.

You were a little startled when Sadie suddenly pulled you into a hug, burying her face in your hair. You smiled as you wrapped your arms around her, hugging her back.

"You're amazing...I can't believe how lucky I am to have you" Sadie smiled into your hair. In her mind there were few people who would understand and accept her position but you seemed to accept it completely. She was lucky to have you.

"It's natural that you miss him and that you still love him, I could never be mad about that" you assured her, wanting to ease any of her worries.

"I do love him, but I love you too Y/N, just as much. I hope that you never doubt that" Sadie spoke softly as she pulled away, only enough to look you in the eyes.

"I wouldn't ever doubt that, I love you" you smiled as you ran your fingers against her cheek, making her smile.

The pair of you ended up sitting down in front of a tree, both of you leaning back against it. Her fingers played with yours mindlessly.

"Do you want to do something for his birthday? We could go and visit him" you suggested quietly, glancing at the woman beside you.

"You would do that? Visit his grave with me? It's back by our ranch, y'know..." Sadie asked, looking at you a little shocked.

"If you want too...I would go with you" you nodded, it truly wasn't a burden to you.

"Thank you" Sadie smiled as she wrapped her arm around you. You just smiled back before resting your head on her shoulder. Sadie was feeling better already because she had you to talk to and had you to help her through the hard times.

The pair of you sat together for a while longer. At first you listened to her talk about Jake and recall fond memories from their past, you asked about him, learning more and more about the man. You liked everything that you learnt.

Then the conversation took a turn, talking about anything that came to mind. You both talked and laughed, just enjoying each other's company, until you both thought that you should head back to the camp.

Your fingers laced through Sadie's as you walked back to the camp, smiles on both of your faces. Sadie pulled you a little closer to her as you spoke between yourselves, smiling happily at each other. Your chatter caught the attention of a few people as you returned to the camp.

A few people smiled at you both when they saw you both with happy looks on your faces and your hands intertwined, they were just happy that you seemed to have pulled Sadie out of whatever dark place she was in.
