(TW~Mentions of death from previous chapters, Panic attack)

"After that I... I don't really know. I took care of the mess. Made it look like the body I had given up had killed them with some sort of an animal. Then made it look like the animal got away after killing the guy." Roman was dazed out as he just sat there, numb expression, just talking as if to himself. "The town was scared for a long while started this whole thing about werewolves for a while until it all died down. The girl grew up to be a teacher. I... I watched over her for a while until she was old enough that I didn't have to anymore. I don't know why I did. I guess... I just... I felt like I had to."

"Roman?" Virgil was stunned, to say the least. He wasn't surprised. He knew what demons were. He knew how they were. He expected death, rape, torture... so much evil. He fully expected and believed Roman had done it all. Or... At least he used to in the past... the him he's constantly saying he wasn't anymore. But this actually broke his heart... Seeing Roman so broken up about it all. "Roman, it's ok."

"I could have saved him. I let him die. I let him die and then... and then I basically mauled his parents to death... with his little sister in the other room. She was right. I am a monster. You don't ever stop being what you are. I'll always be Rom..."

"Roman, stop this instant." Roman's eyes shot wide, flashing brightly as this sudden surge filled his being. The bond between them formed by the deal twinging and tightening around him, as his mind stopped short. Virgil... Roman's eyes met with the human's, who was crying with this look of fear that tore Roman about. Virgil wanted him to stop. At that moment Virgil's wish was for Roman to just stop. "Please stop."

"I'm sorry." Roman winced slightly as he curled into himself. "No. Don't apologize unless you mean it. Lying is unbecoming."

"Roman?"

"Don't lie. Don't... Don't..." Roman tensed up bad as he gripped his hair tightly in his grip. "My fault. It's my fault. Fiona... Ash... it's my fault. I hate this. I hate feeling like this. I hate being like this. I don't want to be a..." Roman completely crashed, going limp in Virgil's arms, as the younger suddenly pulled him in for a hug. It was like Roman's mind shut down completely.

"Breathe, Roman. You're having an attack. I need you to breathe."

"Don't... Don't need to. Demon..." Roman mumbled as he just laid there unable to move a single muscle. Virgil's eyes darkened as he practically cradled the demon in his chest. "Demon's don't need to breathe."

"Roman, can you please breathe? For me?" Roman's eyes narrowed as they slowly went from the wall he was staring at blankly, to the arms holding him close, to Virgil's eyes making him smile a bit subconsciously. "Please, breathe for me. You'll feel better."

"Better?" Virgil nodded as he took Roman's hand and pressed it to his chest. Roman's eyes instantly darted to it with this look of worry. "Your heart... it's racing. Why? Virgil?"

"I'm ok. Don't focus on my heartbeat, Ro." Roman whined with anxiety as Virgil just shook his head. "I want you to breathe with me ok?"

"Ok." Roman didn't see the point of it. It was far better not to breathe. Breathing hurt... It was hard to. So why was Virgil so adamant to... Roman ended up in a coughing fit not soon after, shaking his head as he to say he didn't want to.

"It's ok, Roman. Keep trying."

"It's hard." Virgil's eyes softened with an understanding Roman didn't really like.

"I know it is, but once you get breathing better it will help. Trust me, Roman. Please. Try again?" Roman frowned as Virgil held his hand tighter to his chest, breathing a bit dramatically but slower as to let Roman copy it easier. Roman did although once again chocking a bit at first. He whined but much to Virgil's praise didn't stop trying.

After a while Roman was breathing normally just laying on his chest with a sad look in his eyes. For some reason, just being there was giving Roman this feeling of... safety, was it? It was still really hard for him to understand his own emotions. Fear was something he could pinpoint. So was pain. As those are things he's felt and learned with intensity. He can even somewhat know when he's angry. Not Rage. He's never been able to tell when he was to the point of rage but anger yes. This... This was something new though.

His heart beat had slowed. His mind had dulled down to a sort of calm. His breathing was slow and deep. He honestly felt... relaxed. So relaxed in fact his eyes had slipped shut.

"Thank you." Roman mumbled tiredly as he let out a soft breath. Virgil's arms were wrapped around him like a hug but... to Roman, this felt different. He still felt the warmth of the embrace but it just wasn't the same as a normal hug. Even still he found himself enjoying it.

"We're friends, Roman. I wasn't about to let you go through that if I could help." Virgil stared down at the demon in his arms and he was taken back a bit. Roman was a demon, clear as day, yet... To any who knew him would think he was so young. He held this innocence you never thought a demon could even fake let alone actually possess. How could a demon be so... so... vulnerable? What is it that made him this way?

How was Virgil supposed to help him?

"We're friends." Roman giggled through the calm as he smiled like a sleepy child, only serving to add to this image of innocence Virgil couldn't help but imagine. "My first true friend. Besides... B-Besides A-Ash. My... Friend." Roman cuddled up closer as he giggled some more making this bubble of need form in Virgil's chest. "I'm... happy? I think? Happy I got a friend? Yeah... Yeah, happy. I'm very happy."

"I'm glad, Ro. Why don't you rest? You look like you're falling asleep." Roman frowned a bit as he tried to pull away but that calming feeling would let up and he only ended up whining with worry. "Hey, it's ok. Nothing's going to happen. I'll be here. Trust me..."

"Not... Not you I don't trust." Virgil's eyes darkened as Roman tried again only to fall right back where he was. He was exhausted, that much was clear. That attack had drained him. That whole trip down memory lane had left him drained.

"Roman, I... I trust you. So just relax. It's ok."

"No! no... Don't..." Roman whined as Virgil just held him closer. "Don't trust a demon. Don't trust them, Virgil. Don't... Don't trust... me." Roman's voice slowly slurred as sleep dragged him under. "Never... trust... me."
