Acting Childish

You think with his tired I was going to sleep would be easy but for the first hour after curfew Coach Hedge did his nightly duty walking up and down the hall yelling things like lights out or settle down or try and sneak out and I'll smack you back to Long Island.

He banged his baseball bat on any door he heard a noise from shouting at everyone to go to sleep. Which made it impossible for anyone to go to sleep.

I stared at the upper bunk where my brother was. I know he couldn't be asleep either but we couldn't really talk like we usually do.

I didn't think I'd ever fall asleep but finally my eyelids shut. After what felt like mere seconds Leo was knocking on our door.

"We're landing! Get up lazy butts!" He yells at us.

I let out a groan before rolling out of bed. Percy looks like he had decided to roll back over and went back to sleep.

I climb up the ladder to his bunk. I take one of his pillows and furiously hit him in the face with it until he gets up. I've learned tactic after years of having to wake that bum up.

"Ok, ok, ok. I'm up! Stop hitting me!" He says.

I hit him one more time just for pleasure. We both get up and get changed. We're about to walk out when I say his name.

"Percy?" I ask.

He turns around and I hit him in the face again.

"I seriously hate you," he says walking out.

I laugh for a few moments before we get upstairs.

"You look like you had a rough night," annabeth says to Percy.

"More like a rough morning," Percy says shooting me a look.

I let another laugh out. Percy puts arm around Annabeth. Piper was the last to join us. She comes up the stairs and sees all of us standing around.

"So, what's the plan?" Asks Annabeth.

"I want to check out the highway. Find the sign Topeka 32," Piper says.

"We shouldn't be far. Festus and I calculated the landing as best we could. What do you expect to find at that mile marker?" Asks Leo.

Piper explains what she had seen in her knife. A man in purple with a goblet.

"Purple shirt? Vines on his hat? Sounds like Bacchus," Jason says.

"Dionysus," Percy mutters. I hate when he does this. I really like Jason, he's a great guy and my brothers been acting like ass, "If we came all the way to see Mr.D-"

"Bacchus isn't so bad. I don't like his followers much..." Jason says trailing off, "but the god himself is okay. I did him a favor once up in wine country."

These two were acting like children competing for their parents attention.

Percy looked appalled, "Whatever man. Maybe he's better in the Roman side. But why would he be hanging around in Kansas? Didn't Zeus order the gods to cease all contact with mortals?"

"The gods haven't t been very good at following that order," Frank notes, "Besides if the gods have gone schizophrenic like hazel said then who knows what going on with the olympians. Could be some pretty bad stuff out there."

"Sounds dangerous," Leo says with a grin, "you guys have fun, I've got to finish repairs on the hull. Coach is gonna work in the broken crossbow. And, uh, Annabeth- I could really use your help. You're the only other person who even sort of understands engineering."

Annabeth looks to Percy, "He's right. I should stay back and help.

"I'll come back to you," Percy says kissing her on the cheek, "I promise."

They're so easy together. It's not that Travis and I aren't like that it's just.... I don't know. I think I'm just jealous of Percy and Annabeth.

Frank slips his bow off his shoulder and propped it against the rail, "I think I should turn into a crow or something and fly around watching for eagles."

"Why a crow?" Asks Leo.

Franks face goes red. Him and Leo begin to bicker until hazel steps in between them. Hazel volunteers to help frank and gives Leo some angry looks. Our group is falling apart.

Hazel and Frank hate Leo and Jason and Percy are at each other's throats. The only people without a grudge is Piper, Annabeth, and me. At least for now.

Hazel turns to Percy, "Just be careful when you go out there. Lots of fields, lots of crops. Could be Karpoi on the loose," Hazel says.

"Karpoi," I ask.

"Grain spirits," hazel says giving me a look that says don't ask.

"That leaves four of us to check the mile marker," Percy says, "Me, Phoebe, Jason, and Piper. I'm not psyched about seeing Mr.D again. That guy is a pain. But, Jason, if your on better terms with him..."

"Yeah," Jason says, "If we find him I'll talk to him. Piper it's your vision. You can take the lead."

"Of course. Let's find the highway," Piper says.
