It's Not To Late

Piper decided she was bored pacing the ship listening to coach song old McDonald with weapons instead of animals. Honestly though I was too. Her and Jason decided to have a picnic in the park. I usually wouldn't have minded except that meant I was alone with coach.

I end up pacing the deck alone. Percy came back with Jason and Piper at his tail. His face said something was up. I run to him.

"Percy, what's wrong," I ask worried.

He tells us what happened with him and Annabeth.

"So Annabeth was kidnapped on a motor scooter by Gregory Peck and Aubrey Hepburn?" Piper asks.

"Not kidnapped exactly," Percy says, "but I've got this bad feeling....," he takes a deep breath trying to calm himself down, "Anyways she gone- maybe I shouldn't have let her go-"

"You had to. You knew she had to do this alone. Besides, Annabeth is tough and smart. She'll be fine," I say to him grasping his arms.

His shoulders relax a little, "Maybe your right. Anyway Gregory- I mean Tiberius- said we had less time than we thought to rescue Nico. Hazel and the guys aren't back yet?"

We talk for a moment before Percy remembers something.

He points at Pipers dagger, "Tiberinus said you could find Nicos location... you know with that."

"I've tried," Piper says, "the dagger doesn't always show what I want. Actually it barely ever does."

"Please. Try again," Percy says.

"Fine," Piper says and draws her knife.

She studied the bronze blade.  We all peer over her shoulder. It showed Roman demigods around a table as Octavian talked and pointed on a big map.

"That's not good," Jason mumbles, "they've already set up forward base in Manhattan."

"And the map shows Long Island," I say.

"They're scouting territory. Discussing invasion routes," Jason says.

Light ripples across the blade showing ruins all clustered on a grassy hillside dotted with pine trees.

"I was just there. It's the old forum," Percy says.

The blades image zooms in straight through a doorway, down a spiral stairwell, and into a dark cylindrical chamber. Piper drops the blade.

"What wrong?" Jason asks, "It was showing us something."

"We can't go there," Piper insists.

"Piper, Nico is dying," I say, "we've got to find him. Not to mention Rome is about to be destroyed."

She picks up the knife again. It shows two giants in gladiator armor sitting on oversized Praetor chairs. The giants toasted each other. Between them a large jar. The vision zoomed inside the jar to reveal Nico curled in a ball, no longer moving, all the seeds gone.

"We're to late," Jason says.

I stagger backwards. My head feel light. Percy comes over to me and takes my hand.

"No. No. No," I mumble to myself.

"Maybe he's gone into a deeper trance. We have to hurry," Percy says.

Percy was still holding my hand. He hand his other hand on the small of my back keeping me from falling over. My head was still spinning a little and my breathing felt heavy.

"We should wait for the others," Piper says.

"We can't wait," Percy says looking at me again.

Coach grunted, "it's just two giants. If you guys want I could take them."

"That's a great offer but we need you here to man the ship," Jason says.

Coach scowled, "and let you guys have all the fun?"

"Hazel and the others need you here. When they get back they'll need your leadership. Your their rock," Percy says.

"Yeah," Jason says, "Leo always says your his rock. You can tell them where we've gone and to bring the ship to the forum to meet us."

"And here," Piper says handing coach her blade, "keep an eye on us with the blade. And you can check the baseball scores."

That sealed the deal. We get ready to walk off.

"Pheebs, you don't look so hot. Maybe you should stay-" Percy starts.

"There is no way in Hades that one I'm letting you go fight a giant without me and two leave Nico. I'm coming," I say.

Percy knows that he's not going to win this argument. We turn and walk down the gangplank you make our way to the forum.
