"Bhabhiji, Preeti ke liye Pandit sahi ladka hai... aur agar yeh dono ek doosre ko pehle se jaante hain toh achha hi hai na... mujhe iss rishte mein aitraaz karne jaisa kuch nahi laga isliye haan keh diya." Anand sternly replied to taiji's harsh words.

"Agar faisla le hi liya tha toh yeh poochne ka natak kyon kar rahe the?" Tauji retorted angrily.

"Pooch nahi raha, bhaisahab, bataa raha hun... ki aapki beti ka rishta pakka ho gaya hai... kal shaadi ki tareekh nikal jayegi... koshish karenge ki jaldi hi yeh shaadi ho jaaye." Anand was polite but his voice left no doubt in anyone's mind that decision had been taken.

"O bai, Anand babu, aisa kya khaas hai uss parivaar mein ya uss ladke mein jo aap apne sage bhai ke khilaaf jaa rahe hain... kya aapke doosre damaad ki tarah bohot paise wala hai? Lekin usse aapka kya fayda hoga? Kaunsa woh apni daulat mein se aapko hissa dene wala hai... itna lalach theek nahi hai." Taiji could not see Preeti too getting married to someone as rich as Sameer.

"Laalach toh hai mujhe, bhabhiji... aur ussi laalach ke liye main Preeti ki shaadi yahin karunga." Anand said with finality.

Both tauji and taiji were taken aback, not expecting something like this from Anand.

"Tum apni beti ki shaadi apne faayde ke liye karna chahte ho?" Tauji's voice clearly showed his shocked state, never expecting such a selfish thing from his righteous brother.

"Har baap lalchi hota hai... apni beti ki khushi ke liye... main bhi hun... meri beti ki khushi issi ladke ke saath hai aur main usse yeh khushi kisi ko chenane nahi dunga... kisi keemat pe nahi." Anand crossed his arms against his chest, showing his defiance.

Taiji looked from him to Bela to Preeti. Bela had the same determined look on her face. Though her eyes were downcast, the firmly set line of her mouth made it clear to her that she was as undaunting as her husband. It was Preeti's intrepid expression that irked the ego that was the size of her form.

"Aisi kya patti padha di hai tune aur tere uss aashiq ne tere maa baap ko jo woh apne sage bhai ke khilaaf jaane ko taiyar hain? Apna business tum logon ke naam kar raha hai kya?" Taiji shifted closer to Preeti, whispering in her ears.

Appalled at her allegation, Preeti shot up a shocked look to her, "Aisa kyon karega?"

Taiji's mouth twisted in grimace as she gave Preeti a look from head to toe, "Haan, koi bhi aisa kyon karega tere liye?"

Preeti looked away, having heard such taunts often for Naina, and not affected by them.

Taiji dipped her head to whisper in lower voice, "Toh kya jhansa diya hai tune usse? Kya gul khilaya hai ki achanak se yeh shaadi aur woh bhi itni jaldi macha ke?"

Preeti squeezed her eyes shut, swallowing the bile of fury that rose in her.

"Bohot kehna sunna ho gaya, Bina, ab chalo yahan se... inko apni hi marzi karni hai toh hamara yahan kya kaam hai... jahan hamari izzat nahi hai wahan nahi baithna mujhe." Tauji called out to his wife in a stern voice.

She turned sharply, opening her mouth to stop him, but he was already walking out of the house, his hands locked behind him.

Giving another austere look to Preeti, she stumbled behind her husband.

"Yeh kya kar rahe hain aap? Aise wapas kyon aaye?" She questioned the moment they entered their house.

"Jab unhe hamari baat sunni nahi, kuch manna nahi toh baat karne ka faayda bhi nahi... kis liye wahan rukte?" He was miffed at their irreverence to his position in the family.

Taiji adjusted her pallu, shutting the door before turning to him, "Aap itna kyon soch rahe hain... unki beti hai... kisi se bhi shaadi karein... jo bhi hoga, koi raja maharaja toh hone se raha... koi chota mota dhandha karta hoga... kya farq padta hai... main toh kehti hun kisi bhaji wale se bhi kar de apni beti ki shaadi, hamari balaa se... aap kyon apna khoon jala rahe hain?"
