Sameer was worried about Naina's craving for spicy food last few weeks. He tried to dissuade her by offering other things but she got restless and irritated if she didn't get what she wanted. In their next visit to the doctor, he mentioned it to her while Naina was being assisted to the room for checkup.

"Mujhe bas yehi darr lagta hai ki kahin usse fir se acidity na ho jaaye. Lekin mana karne pe woh itni gussa ho jaati hai ki main hi darr jaata hun. Sachhi doctor, Naina ne pehle kabhi itna gussa nahi kiya. Mujhe samajh nahi aata kya karun. Baat khane se shuru hoti hai aur uske baad woh har cheez pe gussa nikalne lagti hai. Aur poora din aise hi rehti hai." He shared his concern.

Doctor smiled gently, "Sameer, yeh mahine sirf Naina ke liye hi nahi, tumhare liye bhi mushkil hain. Uski har maang ko manne se uski sehat ko nuksaan hoga aur na manne se uska gussa badh jaata hai jo uske aur baby dono ke liye theek nahi hai. Isliye hum zyadatar yehi kehte hain ki uska jo dil karta hai usse khane do. Gussa kam aana chahiye. Khane se hone wali problems ke liye hum dawa de denge. Iss haalat mein khush rehna bohot zaroori hai."

Sameer quickly responded, "Main poori koshish karta hun ki Naina khush rahe. Woh rehti bhi thi. Lekin kuch dinon se jaise har cheez napasand ho gayi hai usse. Har baat pe naraaz ho jaati hai. Aur jaise hi yeh masale wale khane ki baat aati hai, mere kuch bhi samjhane pe chilla padti hai aur phir khana khane se hi mana kar deti hai. Samjhane jaata hun toh mujhse bhi naraaz ho jaati hai ki mujhe uski parwah nahi hai."

"Yeh sab thode din mein theek ho jayega. Woh jaan ke yeh sab nahi karti. Aisi haalat mein hone wali maa bohot emotional ho jaati hai kyonki usmein itni tarah ke badlaav aate hain. Woh khud bhi nahi chahti aisa karna lekin apne aap pe control nahi kar paati. Baad main Naina ko zaroor iss baat ka dukh hota hoga ki usne aisa bartaav kiya." Doctor said knowingly.

He nodded. She always felt guilty after an outburst, crying in her pillow. He mentioned how he was upset by her frequent flow of tears as well.

Dr Shaila smiled at his concern, "Daro nahi. Sab theek ho jayega. Woh jo bhi maange usse khane do, bas thoda thoda karke dena. Aur saath mein nimbu paani ya lassi dena jisse teekhe aur masale wale khane se usse koi takleef na ho. Aur jo dawai maine likhi hai woh zaroor dena din mein do baar. Bas tum aise hi uska khyal rakhte raho, baaki sab main sambhal lungi."

He smiled, getting some relief from her explanation.

She stopped momentarily while going to the inner room, and turned to look at him, "Aur haan, apna bhi khyal rakhna. Naina ko aage tumhari aur bhi zaroorat hogi. Uske liye tumhe bhi sehatmand aur khush rehna chahiye. Aakhir tum bhi toh papa banne wale ho."

This time, his smile was wider as he dipped his head to the side.

It had been five months of her pregnancy but every time it was mentioned by someone that he would be a father, it swelled his heart with immense pride and exhilaration. A wait of another four months seemed to be too long, but this was something that couldn't be helped. And if it ensured good health for his baby, he would gladly wait.

Back at home, Naina appeared to be in good mood. Last few days, she had been grumpy about everything, complaining about the food, the weather, the work... and lack of it, her dresses that had become tight, even the absence of flowers in the garden. She had not even come in his arms once, let alone letting him comfort her or kiss her. All she allowed was to let him hold her hand. He was patiently fulfilling most of her demands, trying to soothe her with words when she appeared to be on the verge of crying. Today, however, she praised the custard that Ramdhari had prepared, asking for another bowl. He was relieved to see her happily eat the balanced lunch as well.
