"Nahi Naina, hamare yahan doosre saal mein baal nahi kaat te. Agar tum Sana ke baal utarwana chahti ho toh uske birthday se pehle hi kar lo. Ya fir uske do saal poore hone ke baad. Bachhon ke baal sirf pehle ya teesre saal mein katwate hain." Vishakha said when Naina mentioned on phone about Sana's hair.

"Oh! Lekin chachiji ne kaha ki pehle birthday ke baad..." Naina wondered aloud.

Vishakha smiled at the other end, "Riti riwaaz kabhi kabhi kisi wajah se thode badal jaate hain... shayad kuch aisa hua ho tumhare gaon mein jiske baad tumhare yahan yeh naya chalan ban gaya. Par zyadatar jagah mundan pehle ya teesre saal mein hi karwate hain. Tum chaho toh abhi karwa lo agar Sana ke baal zyada bade ho gaye hain a aur uski aankhon mein aate hain toh."

"Nahi, mummy. Uske birthday se pehle main baal nahi katwana chahti." Naina loved Sana's hair.

"Theek hai, beta. Tum aisa karo uske baal baandh diya karo. Usko takleef nahi hogi fir." Vishakha suggested.

Later, Naina tried to make a pony for Sana but she kept moving her head, making it impossible to grasp all hair together. And when Naina did manage to put the rubber band, she realised that the hair in front were shorter, and had escaped the band. The same problem persisted... Sana rubbed her face vigorously as the ends tickled her. Naina took off the rubber band. She handed one of her favourite toys to Sana to play with, and finger combed her hair from front. Taking only those that fell on the face, she made a half pony on top of her head.

The simple solution appeared to be the most natural thing to. Naina was surprised why it never occured to her before. The hair were neatly packed now, leaving Sana's face clear... and it was much easier to tie only a part.

"Arre waah! Hamari doll toh badi cute lag rahi hai." Sameer exclaimed as he entered the room.

Sana beamed at him. He came and sat down in front of both his girls. Leaning to her level, he kissed Sana on the cheek, like he always did when he saw her after a while. Next moment, he placed a similar kiss on Naina's cheek. Sana turned to look at her mom with a solemn face, then stared at Sameer.

"Aap dono ne miss kiya mujhe?" He looked at them simultaneously.

"Hmm, kiya. Sana, miss kiya na papa ko." Naina cuddled Sana.

She gave a wide grin before taking her attention back to the toy.

"Dekha madam, aise hi dheere dheere isko aadat lag jayegi, ki uske papa ka uski mummy ko gale lagate hain ya kiss karte hain toh usse rokna nahi hai." He whispered, leaning closer to his wife.

Naina placed a hand on his chest, making him sit straight, "Aaj ke liye itni training bohot hai. Ek din mein sab kuch mat sikhao."

With a sigh, he moved back, but smiled again as he fingered Sana's tied up hair, "Yeh acha kiya tumne. Woh baar baar apne chehre ko ragadti thi toh mujhe darr lagta tha ki kahin gir na jaaye."

Naina told him about the hair cut and what Vishakha had suggested.

Even Sameer was apprehensive about shaving off Sana's head, "Zaroori hai kya? Kitne sundar baal hain iske, bilkul tumhari tarah. Mujhe toh katwane ka soch ke hi darr lag raha hai."

Naina ran her hand on the soft curls falling over her daughter's shoulders, "Tumhare jaise hain... ussi tarah maathe pe bikhar jaate hain... ussi tarah ungliyon mein phisal jaate hain... ussi tarah hawa mein udte hain."

He placed his fingers lightly over hers, looking at his daughter's hair first and then into his wife's eyes, "Aur kuch dinon mein tumhare jaise ho jayenge jab lambe honge... aise hi lehrayenge... aise hi resham ki tarah khoobsurat lagenge."
