Preeti frowned at Sameer as Naina, Pooja didi and other girls waved the box of shoes in front of Pandit.

Sameer scrunched his nose, holding his ears.

She looked at Naina, who gave a beaming smile, shrugging.

Her gaze shifted back to Sameer. He placed a hand on his heart, and shook his head slowly. Preeti rolled her eyes... obviously Sameer couldn't stand a chance in front of Naina. Why did she even presume so in the first place, she mentally chided herself.

"Dekh lo, jijaji, joote chahiye toh paanch hazaar dene padenge warna jaiye wapas aise hi." One of the girls declared.

Another one giggled, "Ya fir Preeti didi ke pehen lijiye... heel wale."

"Haan, ye achha idea hai... Preeti ke hi pehen lunga." Pandit gave an accepting nod with a serious face.

"Haww, aap kaise husband hain... khud ki fiqr hai, Preeti didi ki nahi... woh bina sandal ke chalengi toh unhe taklif nahi hogi?" The first girl gave him a reproving look.

"Unko kaise taklif hone de sakta hun... unhe toh main god mein utha lunga jisse pair rakhne hi na pade zameen pe." Pandit stared straight at the girl who asked.

While all the younger ones went 'ohos' and 'ahas' and Preeti turned a bright shade of red, Naina tugged at Sameer's arm, pulling him down to her level.

"Lagta hai tumne training di hai Pandit ko." She mumbled in a low whisper.

He gave a knowing smile, "Usse training ki zaroorat hi nahi hai... aakhir hum dono ek hi khandan ke hain na."

Naina was perplexed, "Ek khandaan ke?"

Taking advantage of having their faces at the same height, he blew over her forehead, making a few strays settle back, then winked, "Majnu ke khandaan ke."

It was Naina's turn to go red as his eyes glittered.

Amidst light hearted arguments and teasing, finally the girls agreed to settle for a lesser amount.

"Yeh lo aap logon ke paise, aur jaldi se joote laake do." Sameer fished out an envelope from his pocket, holding out to the group of saalis.

"Nahi, aapse toh le chuke hain, humein naye jijaji se chahiye." The girl stood with hands on waist.

"Arre yeh unhone hi diya tha mujhe... dekho unka naam bhi likha hai." Sameer held out the envelope.

The girl leaned to check out the name.

Sameer bent his head, whispering to her, "Aaram se le lo, warna tumhari behne tumhare dulhe ko bohot tang karengi jab tumhara number aayega."

The girl raised her eyes in wonder at him, and quickly took the envelope. He smirked, making her blush as the meaning dawned upon her.

Once the shoes were handed back and all other rituals were done, it was time for vidaii.

Anand and Bela hugged Preeti, smiling with tearful eyes.

"Dekh beta, jaise yahan uchal kood karti rehti thi waise sasural mein mat karna... zyada patar patar bhi mat karna... zid toh bilkul mat karna... aur saara kaam... " Bela was stopped in her list of instructions midway.

"Aap yeh sab kyon keh rahi hain... hum nahi chahte Preeti apne naye ghar mein khud ko badal de... woh jaise yahan rehti thi waise hi wahan bhi rahe aisa samjhaiye usse... bachhe agar masti aur zid na karein toh ghar mein rounak kaise rahegi... main toh chahti hun Preeti mujhse khoob zid kare aur saara din baatein kare... itne saalon se jo beti ki kami thi ghar mein woh poori honi chahiye." Pandit's mom placed one hand on Bela's shoulder, looking fondly at Preeti in between.
