"How about this one?" Pier asked as he handed another bright-colored berry to the man beside him. Accepting the fruit, Ciaran popped it in his mouth and he started to chew it.
"It's not poisonous," he commented once he was assured that the berry does not contain anything harmful.
"I see. Let us head on the next patch I found!" The two walked together to the place Pier had been pointing out.
Where were they? No one probably knew except for them and the dead fairy.
They were currently on the Paradise of Eternity. The island meant only for the founding kings of Mir. Home for the soul that came from another world and the strongest candidate to be the sovereign of darkness.
Pier and Ciaran were testing out the berries in the island.
Pier acted as the inspector while the vampire served as the taster of the berries.
Since Ciaran was practically immune to any poison at this point due to his lineage as a vampire and the hydra's power within him, he could survive eating any of the poisonous berries.
It was another case for Pier though. Despite having unmatched healing spells as the phoenix's guardian, Pier needed to activate it for him to heal. It would be bad if he suddenly loses consciousness after eating a berry and he can't activate his spells.
Getting nearer to another bush, Ciaran eyed the next berry he would taste.
It looked like a dark orange round berry. However, some of the bigger kinds had blue spots on it and Ciaran instantly knew by the looks alone that it was poisonous.
There was always a rule in nature that he knew when he was still a vampire prince and the leader of Nightfall.
Never touch nor consume any bright-colored things inside the forest.
"Do you think this is poisonous?" Pier touched the leaves and stem of the bush and Ciaran nodded his head.
"I think that berry is poisonous, my love," he spoke but still got one and popped it in his mouth.
Instantly, the berry's juice could be tasted but it was not good.
"Pwe! That was bitter." Ciaran grimaced.
"Haha!" Pier laughed at his lover's reaction which had the vampire's eyebrows furrow.
"Your disgusted face looks funny," Pier commented as he lightly slapped Ciaran's shoulder and proceeded to laugh again.
"Hmmm..." Ciaran did not retort but instead, wrapped his arms around Pier's waist and pulled the man to the next set of bushes he eyed from a distance.
"What if those berries accumulate inside your stomach and give you a bad diarrhea?" Pier asked out of nowhere as they reached the bush and Ciaran got a few of it.
"That would be bad. You have to take care of me always," he ate two of the red, extremely red berries and the juices flooded in his mouth.
"Mhm," he nodded his head in confirmation that it was not poisonous.
"What? Is it poisonous or not? Can I taste?" Pier pulled the sleeves of his clothes making Ciaran chuckle.
"Open your mouth," he instructed and Pier did so.
The young king wanted to taste the fruits that grew on this island. He had never seen any of them before nor have he read them in the books.
'Gideon will surely love this place. But I can't bring him here so I'll give him some souvenirs," Pier thought while opening his mouth.
