yuri: 6, tea: 5

a streak of lightning flashed through the sky as well as a loud "boom", causing the boy to snuggle deeper into his covers. the sound of the soft pitter patter of rain against the window pane could be heard again. at least until the sound of the next lightning flash comes again.

yuri had always been scared of the sound of lightning. he never knew why. it just seemed scary for him, how a flash of light could make that much noise in the sky.

a head pops up by his bedside, making the boy yelp and jump up in fright.

"it's just me, yuri," the girl said with a small smile.

yuri was allowed to have a sleepover with his friends as a birthday present from his parents. as he did not have that many friends (or close ones, so to say), he called up tea to come over, even though she lived next door.

"are you scared of the lightning?" she asked.

yuri did not want her to think that he was sissy and was actually afraid, so he shook his head. at that moment, the sound of lightning echoed throughout the room, sending the boy back into the covers.

"don't worry, i don't like the lightning too," she said, "i know! why don't you bring your stuff to the floor and we'll sleep on the floor together to protect each other?"

yuri thought this was a good idea, since two was better than one. he got up and grabbed his pillow, blanket and teddy bear before sitting down on his bedroom floor with tea, who was sitting on her sleeping bag. she got up and sat next to yuri as he shared the blanket with her, wrapping them both up.

"this can be our invisibility cloak, like in harry potter," yuri said.

"so that the lightning can't find us!" tea said.

they sat there in silence, not saying anything else but hearing the sound of the rain and the occasional thunder.

slowly, tea's head started to move back and forth as she was beginning to feel sleepy before yuri caught her shoulder. carefully and gently, he pushed her head against his shoulder, resting her head on him.

"don't worry, i'll protect you from the lightning," he whispered as he wrapped the blanket around her shoulders.
