all i wanted to see is your smile

kousei was never one to be jealous. however, this time, he felt this tiny wrench in his heart whenever he saw kaori and watari together. ever since he met her, those feelings he had for her began to grow stronger day by day, until one day, it turned from something called a "crush" into "love".

and have your beauty colour my world in pastel once more

ever since he met kaori that fateful day in april, kousei's once monochrome world took on colour, painting his life in a new light so brilliantly that he knew she was what he needed. and he wanted her to be there forever. never mind she was with watari. never mind that she probably wouldn't return his feelings. at that moment, everything was perfect.

recalling the memories that welled up inside me

it was also kaori who helped him get past all those horrific childhood memories kousei had when his mother taught him the piano. sure, she was the one who presented kousei to the world as a child prodigy after mozart, but she slowly got consumed into the thinking that her child needed to be like a human metronome and play every piece with perfection to but famous. with all those memories of her hitting him every time there was a mistake, it brought him pain to play the piano once again. and kaori was the one who helped him face it bravely like how a musician should.

i let out my feelings, hoping they'll reach out to you far away

with all that she did for him, he thought she liked him back. she did, just that she never confessed directly to him despite dropping many hints. he was dense. too dense, to be exact. and by the time he found out, it was too late.

all i want to hear is your voice

all she was is now a memory, forever etched in his mind. she could never be forgotten, no matter how hard he tried. not that he ever tried or wanted to forget her, of course.

and have it resonate undulatingly throughout me once more

the warm breeze blew by, birds flew in the air, singing their joyous songs. spring has come. kousei reached the lone gravestone with her name carved on it and gave a brittle smile as he began speaking to her as if she were still alive.

and the times we spent together, are all irreplaceable in my heart

he recalled all the times they spent talking, laughing... hell, even bickering! but his favourite memories are of them performing duets together in front of an audience, with him having no confidence and her backing him up.

i'll treasure these memories you gave me

all those memories of one year together were definitely irreplaceable, like the treble to the bass. he wouldn't trade anything to change or forget them.

so thank you

at the end, before he left, all he said was, "thank you, kaori, for giving me a new life with colour."

and goodbye

"sayonara."
