everyone's life is like a story. it can be a fairytale, a horror story, one full of adventure or mystery. or maybe a mixture.

qq's life started off as a fairytale. she was born to a family that was full of music every day, since the day she was born. her mother was always on the piano, practicing her exam pieces, while her dad was strumming away on his guitar or blowing the dizi.

ever since young, she was exposed to all kinds of music. chinese, classical, english, anything. the songs her mother played somehow registered into her mind though she never knew the title. she loved music so much she would cry when her dad stopped playing his guitar.

at the age of eighteen months, qq sat on the chair in front of one of the pianos they owned, she said, "mummy! piano!"

her mother, who was full of humor, began teaching her daughter the basics. soon, the little girl managed to figure out "twinkle twinkle little star" on the piano all by herself. her mother taught her how to play "beyer number eight" with two hands, and the little girl did it.

besides the musical part of her life, she was infatuated with a bunch of kids' shows. you know, disney shows, winx club, the usual.

after passing her piano grade one at the age of four, qq's mother began to realise her daughter's musical potential that she inherited from her. she began to teach her the ways of classical music, slowly adding more pressure to her as the years went by.

when qq turned eight, her fairytale turned into a horror story, with her miraculously managing to find time to complete her schoolwork as well as practicing the piano. her mother made her learn the violin and added the harp in two years later.

when she turned eleven, her horror story began to lighten up and turn into a more picturesque one. she managed to pass her piano grade eight, her violin grade eight with a merit and her grade five harp with a distinction.

upon reaching junior high, she met kageyama, turning her scenic story into a romance-filled one. she fell for him big-time, no doubt about that.

years flew by, and qq was soon taking a class in an aesthetic college with qian and tea, with her and qian taking the music classes and tea taking the art classes. her workload increased, turning her fairytale into a more tense one. with more work added, time was taken away from her and she began spending more time on her music schoolwork and slowly drifting away from kageyama, who was her current roomate.

she was sitting at the piano, practicing yet another piece. this time, it was liszt piece that she had already learnt but wanted and needed to polish up.

the apartment was filled with the melodies coming from the piano which kageyama learnt to get used to and like over the years. but the thing he hated about it that it was taking her away from him, and he didn't like it.

he slammed his book shut and marched out of his room and down to the living room, where she sat, her fingers running over the black and white keys of the instrument.

quickly, he grabbed her hands off the piano and pulled her off the chair.

"w-what are you doing?" she asked, "i need to practice, you know! the performance exam is in two weeks!"

"well, the damn piano is taking you away from me!" he yelled.

she pulled her hands out of his grasp and asked, "what are you even going on about?"

"don't you see, dumbass?" he said in exasperation, "ever since you went into that college, you've been so obsessed with the piano that you hardly spend time with me anymore!"

"i want to do music as my career, okay?" she said, "and to do that, i need to work hard and get my degree."

"but you need rest too!" he argued, "you need to stop overworking yourself and take breaks!"

he closed the piano silently and led her to the sofa, wrapping an arm around her upper back.

"you need to relax and rest your hands," he said softly.

she gave a sigh of defeat and said, "fine. then how about we put on some your lie in april?"

"deal," he said, turning the television on and clicked chrome.

he made a solemn promise to himself to turn her tense story into a more colourful and carefree one once they graduated. he promised to turn her story into a fairytale once again.
