running past all the other students, she turned right and into the restrooms, darting into the first stall. she leaned against the door, sliding down before sitting on the ground with her bento box beside her. numbly, she grabbed the end of toilet roll and watched it roll downwards before tears started rolling down her cheeks.

why did she even befriend them in the first place?

they were so nice to her back in their first year of elementary school. they were nothing like they were as of now.

she buried her head into her knees and began to think about how stupid she had been to join their clique and get abandoned (and slapped) in the end.

you idiot, did you actually think you could have friends? a voice in her head said in a snarky tone.

yes. yes, she had been an idiot.

you were born to be alone, you self-deceiving asshole, the same voice said, and even if you had friends, you are always going to get dumped by them in the end.

the final bell rang, signalling the end of the school day. the students began to chatter endlessly as they packed their things up, except for a certain ravenette who had done her packing much faster since she was not talking. quietly, she slung her bag over her shoulders and exited the noisy classroom.

silently, she walked along the hallways which were peppered with students here and there. they were hanging out with their friends, talking to one another, or looking at some random instagram post together.

"qq!"

she turned her body slightly to see guang hong, her friend since childhood, rushing forward with his bag slung across his shoulder and books, binders and notes in hand.

"oh. hey," she said once the boy caught up to her, forcing a fake smile on her lips.

"wanna have a study session together?" he asked.

"you're older than me by a year and twenty days," she pointed out, "that means you're a level above me. which means our level in each subject is different."

"yeah, but i could still coach you," he said with a smile.

she gave a sigh of defeat, before saying, "fine, lead the way, mr. ji."

qq had texted her mom saying that she would be over at the jis' house to study together. Not that her mother minded, though.

guang hong rang the doorbell, and his mother answered it almost immediately.

"mom, qq's over to study with me," guang hong said, "is that okay?"

"sure! sure!" his mother said with a heartwarming smile.

"thank you, mrs. ji," qq said with a smile.

the elder woman stepped aside for the children to walk in, before locking the door up and saying, "if you need me, i'll be in the kitchen."

"you can go to my room first, i'll get us some snacks," he said.

"in that case, i'll help you carry your stuff," she offered.

he handed her his things before giving her a smile and disappearing into the kitchen.

she walked up the stairs slowly before entering his room. it smelled of lavander, like always. slowly and carefully, she set his books down on his table and his bag next to the table.

as she sat down on the carpeted floor, the events of what happened earlier in school began to flood her mind once again as tears streamed down her face.

(gg use fake names for dem bullies lmao)

qq walked down the stairs with alycia. as they made their way to the usual meeting place, they could not see their friends anywhere.

"hey, where do you think they went?" she asked.

alycia shrugged in response.

that was when the three of them came out of hiding while whispering among themselves.

"yeah, she totally needs to burn in hell," lara said, nodding her head.

serena, whom qq secretly hated and could not get along with no matter how hard she tried, gave a light laugh in response.

the three of them stared straight at qq, who was staring back at them.

"i don't think she knows who we're talking about," edna said.

"i'm not stupid, you know,"  qq said as she folded her arms, then sprinted off, hurt.

the door opened and in walked guang hong with a plate of cookies. qq snapped out of her trance and quickly wiped her tears away before retrieving her books out of her bag.

"okay, let's start," she said, placing the books front of her.

"what's wrong?" he asked, staring at her.

"n-nothing's wrong," she said as she put on that why-would-anything-be-wrong look with a playful roll of her eyes.

"you're lying," he said as he looked at her straight in the eye.

feeling uncomfortable, qq shifted her gaze to the books lying inbetween them.

maybe i was too harsh on her, he thought, feeling guilty.

taking a breath, he started again, this time in a more gentle tone, "you can tell me."

"like i said, nothing's wrong!" she said as tears began to sting her eyes.

"i saw you from outside," he said slowly, "you were crying."

she still did not answer, her black orbs still fixated on the books in front of her.

"hey," he said, grabbing her by the shoulders lightly, causing her to look up into his brown eyes, "It's okay. Not everything goes right in life all the time, you know."

the tears that she had been holding back began to spill and pour down her cheeks as she lifted her hands to her eyes to rub them away. quickly, he grabbed the tissue box and handed her a tissue.

minutes passed, and she began to calm down and dry her tears. he pushed aside the books before reaching his arms out around her slowly and pulling her into a hug.

"你放心," he said as he patted her on the back, "i'll have your back. always."
