Chapter thirty eight: The Runaway

Shawn pulled the car over seeing the sign for Montreal on their right and looked to Carson who was looking around, he looked to his watch before looking ahead seeing through the snow that was falling ''Keep going, but... Be cautious.'' Shawn nodded and contiued driving to head into the city, Timothy was reading the comic's Connor gifted him when Connor was done reading them, he was facinated by the hero's in these books. Tim looked up seeing a glimps of the sign as they passed then looked around Tabitha's shoulder throught the two in the front at the road. Marc sat up and looked to the front of the car before looking outside, Veronica lifted her hands running her hands through her hair tying it up in a high pony before letting her left arm fall over Patricia's shoulders and lowered her right to her lap ''You doing alright?'' Patrica nodded at the question holding a chirstmas card she was going to give to her father ''Where's dad?'' she asked looking to Veronica, she could see the question coming.

''He's with Lewis I believe, I'm sure their ok.'' she stated with a smile and looked to Timothy ''Your father's with them as well, yes?'' she asked, Timothy looked to her ''Evin isn't my dad, but yeah, he's with them.'' he stated and looked down to the comic again ''He isn't?'' Veronica asked having the story wrong, Tim shook his head, Veronica looked forward thinking about everyone then ''Is Carson your dad?'' Tim shook his head once again ''My father died at the begining.'' he stated and paused thinking about the screams before shutting his eye's and shut the comic setting it on his thighs looking out the window, Veronica turned forward wanting to say something but just reached her hand over taking Timothy's hand. Shawn slowed the car down pulling over to the first small building which was a motel, he looked around before stopping the car and turned looking to Carson who nodded ''Yeah, this is good.'' he stated and turned around in the seat looking to everyone ''We'll go check the place out then come get you.'' he stated and turned back opening the door getting out, Shawn got out of the car while Marc got up climbing over the back seat and out of the trunk shutting that behind him, Carson moved around and opened the door getting Neptune out of the car shutting the door behind her.

The four walked towards the first room which was where you would go to pay for the night's, Shawn went to the desk and looked over before walking around, Neptune stayed by the door from Carson giving her the hand signle to sit and stay while him and Marc walked over to a hall, Carson stopped letting Marc go ahead of him looking around before following after him. Shawn opened a door behind the desk seeing it was a small room, a single bed with a small kitchen area with a stove top and a sink. He turned a bit shinning his flashlight around seeing a fridge and a door off to the side which he was thinking was the bathroom. He went over and pushed the door open and pulled his knife out fast as a walker turned around slowly, Shawn stabbed it and watched it fall as he pulled the knife back and shinned the light on him seeing the tried blood it landed in, and saw the cut's on it's wrist's before scoffing and moved over opening the first aid kit moving thing's around before taking what he found.

Shawn left the managers bedroom seeing the two coming back ''There's nothing.'' Shawn held up a bottle of advil and medical wrap's ''Check the first aid kit's when we go into the other room's.'' he stated and took his bag off, Carson smiled a bit and went to the door letting Neptune leave before them, Marc followed leaving Shawn there alone. Carson walked past the car with Neptune running to the next door they were going to, Marc went to the next room feeling confindent enough to do one alone, he looked at the window seeing it was shattered with glass on the outside on the ground. He brought his pistol out and looked around before seeing a body leaned against a poll to his left, he reached for the handle seeing it was unlocked and pushed it up raising the gun only to move away as raccoons ran out of the room, Neptune looked over before barking and running after them ''Neptune!'' Carson yelled leaving the room and saw Neptune running to the road ''Neptune!'' he yelled feeling a jolt of panic. He ran over turning around the car and saw Neptune was already back on the road running after these raccoons ''Neptune get back here.'' he stated and slowed down seeing her run into the feild. 

Shawn left the room getting his bag back on him and looked to Carson before looking over seeing Neptune was running away ''Well, that's one less mouth to feed.'' Carson clenched his fist and turned to him glaring ''You watch it.'' he stated and pointed to Shawn before turning around ''I'm right though.'' Carson stopped and turned looking back to him ''You better watch the way you speak to me.'' Shawn looked at him ''Why?'' he asked knowing those in the car couldn't hear him and Marc was going into the room ''Becasue, Jon isn't here, Monte, isn't here, Evin....'' he paused ''Isn't here... Meaning, I'm in charge.'' he explained and looked to Shawn for his reaction, Shawn stared at him dragging his tongue against his teeth before nodding once, Carson turned ''Get the other's in a room.'' Carson stated and moved his gun behind him on his shoulder ''It's just a dog, she'll find her way back.'' Carson ignored him and walked towards the feild not caring how far he needed to follow her.
