♦Chapter 84: Facade♦
[]Third Person's POV []
A few of the ladies in the setting almost went mute out of amazement, seeing how courageous the woman at the center of attention has been to have confessed the fact that she's been filthened, behind her husband's back.
Women like the Marchioness were rare, to be exact. No one would dare to announce something that would defame themselves in front of the public, just so they would get sneered at with the revealed weakness, the next day. After all, rumors spread like wildfire with either good or bad intentions in the noble society.
"From the current point of the story, we have clarified that the defendant was an adopted child that was brought to the Aubetrés all of a sudden. Of course, she was added to the aristocratic family through the law, and here are the copies of a history of her being registered.", Chandler said meanwhile the assistants presented the mentioned papers to the jurors.
The judges carefully inspected the copies' contents. Then, when one of them flipped to the next page, his expression went surprised as he wondered how it was related to the earlier page.
"This is-?"
The defense counselor smiled at this and answered the questions in their heads.
"It is a background information of a peculiar person, your honors. Her name is..."
"Tullia."
Hearing the name that the attorney's mentioned, the Marquis and the Marchioness of Aubetré have shown visible reactions on their faces. One wore a demeanor that urged to destroy the evidences, while the other looked disdainful as soon as she recognized the name. At the same time, Fleurette merely remained her posture while closing her eyes.
"It's that woman...!!", Olivia yelled after she quickly shifted her face toward the magistrate.
"She's the person that incited my husband to lose his modesty!!"
In response to the lavender-haired woman's phrase, the magistrate gazed at the restrained man with the red hair and questioned.
"Do you have anything to say about this, Marquis Bryce?"
Now, the center of the audiences' eyes went straight toward the Marquis' direction.
The man was overwhelmed by the feeling of having his aspect being watched by an abyss. He felt like hiding himself from the assembly's gazes as he managed to hang his head low to prevent his eyes from meeting theirs. Then, he unconfidently shouted.
"I... I am not familiar of that name!!", he denied.
"I highly object of his claim, your honor.", a familiar voice of a woman protested.
Everyone quickly placed their attention toward the person with the same red hair as the shackled man while the magistrate gave her the authority to speak concerning the matter.
"Let us hear your opposition, defendant Fleurette."
"Yes. If that man was unaware of mother's existence, he wouldn't have conducted a search party all the way to find us, two, in order to drag me forcefully into the Aubetrés!"
"Does this clarify that this person named Tullia was your birth mother?"
"That is positive, your honor."
There was a brief silence at the center of the courtroom. However, it didn't last that long when the magistrate took the lead to speak of a statement.
