no, the reader is not a vampire, you're just feral in this and doesn't want to take medication

A cold. That's all it was. It was something I tried to hide the first day I had it. The first person in the castle to notice was Daniela. I was extra jumpy when she walked into the kitchen, which prompted her to question my jumpiness — seeing as how I had never been jumpy around any of them before — and why I was making soup.

The second was Cassandra — who had found me swaddled in a blanket in a spare room as I tried to take a nap. I knew she had been keeping an eye on me ever since, when she worried about someone, it showed. Bela was next; she heard my muffled coughs from her room and was immediately at my side. I had begged them not to tell their mother and they had agreed — as long as I told her that night.

I didn't. And when they saw me walking around and cleaning the next day, they decided to take matters into their own hands. That's how I ended up hiding from my 9'6" fiancé and her little gremlins.

I was currently hiding in a passage in the walls, trying to keep my breathing and heart as quiet as possible. The sound of buzzing filled my ears and I silently prayed that it would go away — my prayer wasn't answered. The buzzing stopped right at the wooden pallet that was hiding me from prying eyes. A foot tapped on the wood before a giggle filled my ears.

"Oh, come on, [Y/N]! I know you're behind this!" Daniela called, making me groan internally.

"I'm not taking medicine!" I called back, puffing my cheeks in annoyance. "Make your mother promise to keep the medicine away from me and I'll come out."

An exaggerated groan left the youngest vampire — a giggle bubbling out of me at her copying the things I do — before buzzing filled the air and started fading. I was about to leave and find a new hiding spot when another voice sounded out the moment I shifted, making me freeze.

"Don't even think about it." 'Cassandra.' The little gremlin that loved being silent and scaring the shit out of me.

"Whatever," I grumbled, growling when she giggled at my defeat. 'I'm gonna ground her one day.'

The clicking of heels soon filled the silence and a soft whine left me. I had been avoiding her all day but I still craved her touch — I hadn't been held by her since I woke up. Once the clicking stopped, the low sigh of my fiancé filled my ears.

"I won't make you take any medicine. Now, come out from behind there." She sounded slightly annoyed — more worried than anything, actually.

With the help of Cassandra and Daniela, I was finally able to stand in front of Alcina, a small pout on my features. Bela appeared behind me suddenly, shoving me towards her mother before all three disappeared in their swarms.

"Little nightmares," I grumbled as Alcina lifted me, carrying me through the castle.

"Only because they're worried about you, dear."

"Are we sure Cassandra's worried about me? I'm pretty sure she still wants to eat me." I frowned, tilting my head towards Alcina.

"She doesn't want to eat you—." A pause followed by a small smile. "I don't think, at least. You can always ask her; she'll tell you the truth."

I grumbled about not speaking to little gremlins that made her laugh, bringing a smile to my face. A yawn passed my lips once we finally reached our shared room, Alcina laying me on the bed after we reached it. When she went to move away, I weakly reached for her, whining loudly to catch her attention. It worked.

"Yes, dear?" She hummed, an amused gleam in her eyes.

"Don't look at me like that," Even sick, I still had enough bite to make her laugh. "I want cuddles."

"You need to rest and I have to—."

"Cuddles or I get up and run off again."

"Dear..." She chuckled, sending a warning glare my way. "You wouldn't get very far this time. I don't even think you have the energy to get up."

"I do! Watch me!" I protested, trying to push myself up from laying down, only for her to lightly place her hand on my stomach.

"Rest." She warned, a dangerous gleam in her eyes that made me stop struggling instantly. 'Fuck, that's hot.'

With a soft whimper, I huddled under the blanket and watched her leave the room. 'I don't like sleeping alone when I'm sick,' I immediately moved to her side of the bed, burying my face in her pillow and falling asleep to her scent, a frown on my face.

I wasn't sure how long I had been asleep — the sun was still high and the shadows had barely shifted — when I was suddenly moved. A whine of protest left me but once the bed behind me dipped and my body was pulled against a chest, I settled down. Turning in her hold, my half-lidded eyes stared into Alcina's gold ones, relief flooding my system.

"Our little gremlins demanded I cuddle you," She mused, rubbing my back gently. "They said you were whining and even hissed at them when they tried to calm you down."

My face began to heat up when she said that, a groan of embarrassment leaving me as I buried my face against her. 'That's definitely new,' As far as I knew, I'd never hissed at anyone before — no matter how sick I was.

"All of them?" My question was muffled, not that it mattered, of course.

"Yes, all of them. And to think I was just going to call everyone and let them know not to bother us today too." She let out a dramatic sigh, causing me to fight back a giggle. "Now if we get interrupted, it's on you and our gremlins."

I huffed at that, snuggling into her and threatening to bite anyone that dared interrupt this peace. The quiet laugh of my fiancé was what lulled me to sleep again, a faint smile on my face despite my cold.
