αγάπη μου — my love
reader uses she/they pronouns and is a goddess
—————

Gods and humans weren't supposed to have serious relationships. As a goddess, you knew that from the start. But when you visited the mortal world and met a noble named Alcina Dimitrescu, you fell in love immediately. She was perfect in every way; gorgeous, tall, graceful, intelligent, musically talented — she was your dream come true. The only downside was that she was human — it would never last.

You, however, didn't let that stop the two of you from seeing each other. Alcina would perform somewhere, and you'd happily watch her, smiling from the crowd until the performance was over — then the two of you would sneak off somewhere. It became such a common occurrence that gods and humans alike started to take notice. That's how the two of you ended things — neither of you wanting to ruin her career and you not wanting to put her in danger due to your godhood.

Alcina had asked you to her castle that night you both agreed to end the relationship. You were distraught — to say the least — but the both of you knew it was for the best. When you reached the castle, memories came flooding back to you — good and bad. A nostalgic smile spread over your face as you knocked on the door, waiting as a maid slowly opened it and bowed to you. You held your head high as you crossed the threshold into the castle — but that confidence quickly disappeared upon seeing the woman of the hour.

An elegant evening gown hugged Alcina's figure, the slit in the dress drawing your attention to her pallid leg that you knew had make-up on it. She had begged you to mark up her body the last time you were together — claiming she wanted to have a piece of you even after you were gone. Once she stopped at the bottom of the stairs, you slowly walked over to her and took her hands in yours before lifting them to your lips. You placed tender kisses on the backs of her hands before letting her guide you to a room — the both of you very anxious about what was to come.

"So," You started once you were alone with her, rubbing the back of your neck nervously. "I guess this is it? This is 'good-bye'... I never thought it'd be so soon..."

"Neither did I..." Alcina sighed out, taking a seat and crossing one leg over the other gracefully. "Will we still be allowed to communicate?"

"Not often — and not with conventional means. Do you remember how I said I was a child of the night and you laughed at me?"

"I do."

"Well, when the stars light up the night, talk to the moon for me. I'll hear you — I'll try to respond too... Alci... I—."

"I know."

You hesitated for a moment before nodding stiffly and moving over to her, gently cupping Alcina's face. Her green eyes stared up at you until the both of you leaned in for a kiss — the kiss that would officially seal your fate in never seeing each other again. Neither of you deepened the kiss — knowing that if you did, it would progress and make things harder. A few beats of a tender and bittersweet kiss passed before you both slowly pulled away, allowing you to see the tear slide down her cheek.

"Do not cry, αγάπη μου," You whispered as you wiped away her tear, watching her lean into your touch. "I'll always be with you — even in your next life. They can't keep us apart forever, the fates aren't that cruel."

You frowned at the memory — internally cursing yourself for remembering that time. Alcina had stopped talking to you a few days after that — you weren't sure why; everything had seemed fine before her sudden silence, but you also were forbidden from checking on her. You had been wrong that day, the fates could be that cruel and they had intended on proving that to you after that statement.
