You turned and buried your face in the neck of your best friend, the events of the night before coming back in fragmented segments as you drifted in and out of sleep.

Cassandra told you to meet her in the armory after lunch — she claimed she wanted to give you a present that she didn't want her family to know about. Yet. That was the keyword — yet. It ate at the back of your mind until lunch arrived. Anxiety replaced the need to know what the present was and your anxiety didn't go unnoticed by any of the ladies, especially your boss.

"[Y/N]?" Lady Dimitrescu's voice called out, making you jump before responding.

"Y-yes, my lady?" 'Was stuttering necessary there?! It's already obvious how nervous I am!'

"Why don't you take a break, hm? You deserve one, after all."

"Thank you, my lady," You bowed and quickly left the dining hall, stealing a glance at Cassandra — who sent you a small smile before you left.

You made your way to the armory early and began pacing, trying to take a deep breath to calm your racing heart. Ten minutes went by before you heard the familiar buzzing of the swarms. Another minute passed before Cassandra was in front of you, her arms opening to offer you a hug.

The second your arms were around her waist, Cassandra let out a quiet laugh and wrapped her arms around you. You took a few more deep breaths before pulling away from the hug, letting a shaky sigh leave your lips as you locked eyes with the vampire. Her eyes softened as she cupped your cheeks, a soft smile resting on her face. Your lips parted when she didn't say anything — managing to capture a glimpse of mischief in her eyes before you felt her lips on yours.

Cassandra pulled away before you could return the kiss, a gloved finger pointing upward as she spoke. "Looks like I won our little game."

'Right- Our game-,' You thought as your gaze trailed to the mistletoe above you. "I should've known... Well, you win. Ask me anything."

"Will you be my girlfriend?"

'Wait- I'm such an idiot-,' You groaned and dropped your head on her shoulder. "That's why you suggested this game?"

"Yes. Now, what's your answer?"

"Yes, obviously."

"Good, now I can do this without needing to call it a 'game'," Cassandra muttered before pulling you in for another kiss.

You happily returned the kiss this time, letting your arms snake around her neck to deepen it. A soft squeak left you when your back connected with the wall, causing giggles to leave you and Cassandra as she broke the kiss once more. Her forehead rested against yours and a content sigh left your lips.

"I should've guessed," You laughed after a moment of silence, earning a chuckle from Cassandra.

"I'm sure everyone else caught on anyway," Cassandra hummed, pulling you closer. "Dani was starting to interrogate me when you left."

"She's always been like that."

"Because she knows I've always liked you."

The cold mass next to you shifted and pulled you out of your memory, making you smile warmly at your girlfriend. "Morning."

"Morning," Cassandra's raspy voice sent a shiver down your spine. "I should tell mother the news."

"Five more minutes?"

"Ten?"

You laughed before agreeing, happily cuddling closer to her. "Have I ever told you how cold your body is?"

"Have I ever told you how warm yours is?"

"Heat thief."

"You love it," Cassandra giggled before placing a kiss on your neck. "How long have you liked me?"

"I wouldn't call it 'love at first sight', but it sure was close to it."

"Mine was."

"Really?!"

"Yeah!" Cassandra laughed and rolled you onto your back, immediately straddling your lap. "One look at you and I knew you had to be mine. I couldn't explain it for a long time, but every time I saw you I felt lighter. When you smiled at me or laughed at something I said, I felt alive. I eventually told mother about the situations — opting you out of them — and she told me I had a severe crush on someone. That someone was you."

You nearly squealed at her story, a wide grin on your face as you pulled her down into a hug. Cassandra giggled against your neck as you held her, tears of joy filling your eyes. You let out a soft laugh and let her sit up a little bit, trying to gain your composure again.

"I never thought someone would... Wow," You breathed out, giggling at Cassandra's flustered buzzing. "This is a good reaction, don't worry."

"Thank Mother Miranda," Cassandra laughed, relaxing against you again. "What was it like for you?"

"Well, it was after you threatened me for the first time-,"

"Masochist."

"I wasn't finished."

"Doesn't make me wrong."

You lightly smacked her arm with a huff before continuing, smiling at her giggles. "Once you were sure no one else was around, your eyes softened and you made sure I was okay. It was at that moment that I knew I wanted to know you better. That slowly turned into loving you."

"So you didn't think I was hot?"

"...That's what you took away from that?! Of course I thought you were hot! I'd have to be blind to think otherwise!"

"Just making sure!" Cassandra laughed before pecking your lips. "I guess we should go make the announcement to my family."

"Probably," You sighed and let her pull you into a sitting position as she moved off of your lap. "Although I was enjoying our position."

"In your dreams."

"I'll take that."

You both laughed as you got changed — having bathed before slipping into Cassandra's room to sleep. Once you were ready, you slipped your hand into Cassandra's and happily followed her into the hallway, the smile refusing to leave your face despite how much it was starting to hurt. You knew you had a decent chance at dating her, but you didn't expect her confession to be so adorable and genuine.

Once you entered the dining hall, Bela and Daniela fell silent, their gold eyes landing on the hand that Cassandra held. Grins spread across their faces as you took your seat with Cassandra, trying to ignore the burning gaze of their mother. You glanced up when the lady cleared her throat — heart nearly stopping in the process.

"Cassandra?"

"I think it's obvious that she's the maid I spoke of, mother."

"In that case," The lady smiled fondly at you, pulling a sigh of relief out of you. "I approve. [Y/N], I hope the game was fun."

You laughed nervously and rubbed the back of your neck. "It was — even if it did take me a bit to realize what it was actually for."
