Lady Dimitrescu. I could write an entire novel on her deadly beauty. But that's not how I ended up being her handmaid. I was good at what I did and she acknowledged that. What she didn't expect was for me to just outwardly flirt with her — I'm surprised she hasn't killed me yet.

The days always started the same; I'd wake her up and compliment her — especially while helping her get dressed — before giving her a glass of wine. I'd then walk with her down to the dining room — complimenting her along the way. Throughout the day I'd switch from compliments to pet names. I was given an idea by Daniela — one I was skeptical of but did anyway — to write a note for lady Dimitrescu which officially confessed my love to her.

I stayed up a good portion of the night writing it — making sure it was perfect for the lady. Once it was to my liking, I decided to finally go to sleep, knowing I needed to wake the lady up early in the morning for her call with Mother Miranda.

By the time I woke up and got dressed, I was having second thoughts. But Daniela's constant teasing came back to me and I snatched the note, finally heading to my lady's room. I took a deep breath before opening her door, trying to control my nerves as I set the note on her bedside table.

After I woke her, I went to pour her a glass of wine — hesitating slightly when I heard her pick up and open the note. I had never been more nervous to confess my love to anyone before, and when I turned to walk back towards her to hand her the glass of wine, I had to bite the inside of my cheek to calm my shaking.

"[Y/N]..." Lady Dimitrescu called, taking the wine from me before taking a sip.

Deciding to try to remain my confident self, I took a deep breath before responding, "Yes, dove?"

Her eyes narrowed and my blood ran cold. I took a hesitant step back in case she finally decided to try and kill me. I swallowed the lump in my throat as she stood to her full height, taking another sip of her wine before opening her mouth to speak again.

"You do realize that I'll never love you, right?"

'One knife to the heart.'

"It'd be best for yourself if you just stopped trying."

'A second knife.'

"If you honestly think I could ever fall for a handmaiden like yourself, you're no better than those man-things."

'A thousand knives.'

My gaze dropped and I stopped shaking, my mind finally coming to a standstill. When I didn't say anything, the lady finished her glass of wine and set it down, walking passed me but not before placing the note in my hand.
