You hummed to yourself as you slipped into the kitchen, a grin spreading across your face when you realized no one had touched what you hid from Daniela. After grabbing it surprise, you happily skipped back to the vampire's room, slipping inside while she was still away. You had become fast friends with the youngest Dimitrescu, resulting in the two of you spending a lot of time together.

All of that time spent with her, however, caused your feelings for the redhead to deepen significantly. You tried your best to hide it — Bela seemed to be the only being in the castle to know your little secret. And you were grateful she stayed true to her word and didn't tell anyone. As close as you were with the triplets, didn't mean you were immune to threats from them. Namely, Cassandra.

You knew it was simply her overprotective nature, but you didn't want to risk her finding out until you knew for sure Daniela returned the feelings. That was the plan for today — figure out if Daniela liked you back. So far, she had avoided everything you and Bela set up — even the mistletoe you purposefully put in the doorway to the library.

Three Hours Earlier

You followed Daniela through the halls of the castle until you reached your destination — the library. You and Bela had set a mistletoe in the doorway and purposefully left the doors open to make things easier. What you weren't anticipating was Daniela deciding she didn't want to read today, effectively shutting down your chance of getting a kiss from her.

"I think I'm gonna hunt with Cass for a bit," Daniela muttered as you tried to hold in a sigh. "One of the maids broke a bottle of wine, so Cass hasn't had blood today — meaning the hunt will be extra fun."

"...I see," You hummed, trying not to sound disappointed. "In that case, enjoy your hunt. I have something to do anyway."

"Okay! See you later!"

"Yeah... See ya'..." You muttered as she swarmed away, leaning against the wall in defeat once she was gone. "Well, that plan was a failure."

"You still have another one," Bela pointed out, making you nearly jump out of your skin. "Sorry."

"You gotta stop doing that. Honestly, how do you get your swarm to be so quiet?"

"We're predators. We have to know how to sneak up on prey."

"I'm prey now?"

"I wouldn't mind taking a bite out of you," Bela smirked. "But, you have your sites set on Dani."

"Don't act like you don't have yours set on someone either."

"That's enough out of you."

Present

You glanced up and shot Daniela a smile once she entered her room, ignoring the questioning look she gave you before you patted the spot next to you. Once she took a seat, you moved the nightstand — that you had cleared off — closer to the two of you before setting everything up. You smiled and motioned to the gingerbread house on the box.

"Let's-."

"The lords are coming over, I just came to freshen up," Daniela explained, making your smile drop immediately.

"Right... Well uhm, you and your sisters can make this with the lords," You chuckled before standing up. "I'll just head to my room and freshen up in case your mother needs me..."

"Wait," Daniela muttered and grabbed your wrist before you could leave. "Come back after everyone leaves. I know I've been... Absent today but... I'll explain why tonight, I promise."

Instead of responding, you shrugged her hand off and left, the ache in your chest hurting more than the sickles they used. You knew you had no right to be upset that she was spending time with her family, but it hurt to know that the only time you'd get to spend with her today was at night. After everyone leaves and goes to bed. You felt like a secret.

Once in your room, you locked your door and moved over to your bed, flopping down immediately. You knew if the lady needed someone, she'd call Isa or Hunter first. They had powers — could do things you couldn't — making them the first options. You didn't mind, it kept the workload off of you and let you spend more time with the ladies.

But on days like this, it reminded you of how lonely you were when they were all busy. The ladies, Isa, and Hunter were all your friends — but they were all extremely busy today. Leaving you alone and with your thoughts. A sigh escaped your lips as you turned on your side, your eyes shutting a moment later.

You weren't sure how long had passed since you managed to fall asleep, but judging from how dark your room was, it was very late. With a soft sigh, you climbed out of your bed and made your way to the door, contemplating if you should even open it and leave. When your heart won the battle, an exasperated sigh left you as you stepped into the hallway.

'I can do this,' You thought to yourself as you made your way to Daniela's room. 'I just hope she's awake.'

You stopped in front of her door and took a deep breath, lifting your hand to knock. After a brief pause, you shook the anxiety away and knocked gently on her door, knowing she'd hear it anyway. You took a small step back when you heard flies buzzing closer to the door, a small smile spreading across your face when the door began to open.

A pair of hands cupped your cheeks before a pair of cold lips were on yours. You didn't freeze like you thought you would, instead, you melted into the kiss — the familiar smell of vanilla revealing the one kissing you was in fact, Daniela. Once she slowly pulled away from the kiss, she pointed up with a soft giggle. Your gaze trailed up to the mistletoe, a chuckle leaving you as you shook your head.

"Got you with your own trick," Daniela muttered as she pulled you into her room. "Now, come on dummy, we have a gingerbread house to build."

"Does this mean-?"

"Yes, I'll be your girlfriend," She giggled and kissed your cheek. "I felt bad when I figured out what you had planned for today so, I wanted to make it up to you tonight! And in the morning, we can tell everyone the news!"

"So you weren't trying to keep me a secret?" You muttered shyly, feeling foolish for even thinking that.

"Of course not! You've shown us nothing but kindness and warmth, there'd be no reason to hide you. Everyone knows how fond we are of you. And soon, everyone will know how much we love each other!"

"You make it very difficult to not kiss you."

Daniela giggled and turned to face you, pulling you flush against her before brushing her lips against yours, uttering her next words with a grin.

"Hey, kiss me?"
