POV is in first person, all the others will be edited to first person as well once my mental health improves and I can focus on my passion for writing yet again. Thank you everyone for being patient, and especially thank you to everyone that's stuck around. Once I'm back fully, you'll see a lot fewer author's notes/updates that don't pertain to the stories. I realize how annoying people can find that to be, so I'll try to reduce those significantly.

You'll probably also notice I deleted the Author's Note titled "Important"... I just don't want people to think I'm saying they're automatically transphobic for writing those tags/interacting with those tags. You aren't. I was simply bringing attention to them and to that person who made me very uncomfortable/unsafe. Now, onto the story and me keeping my stupid mouth shut from here on out. Enjoy, if any of you even do that anymore.

The moment February came around, the castle became restless and it was no secret as to why. A lot of the maids that had significant others or family they wanted to see were given Valentine's day off — a few of the older ones were given multiple days off. I was one of the few that stayed. That's why, when I opened my eyes on Valentine's day and noticed how silent it was, I let out a long sigh.

Relationships never seemed to work out for me — always picked the wrong ones; The ones that didn't love me back, ones that used me just to better themselves for someone else, and one that claimed she loved me... My frown deepened at the memory of my ex. Although it had been years since our nasty breakup, every memory of her never failed to disgust me.

'I still can't believe she was the one catfishing Basil...' I shuddered in disgust before heading to my bathroom and turning on the bath water. 'At least with so many maids gone, the ladies are letting those of us that stayed have a day of relaxation in the castle.'

After my bath, I threw on some clothes — glad to finally wear pants again. 'I should really take the lady up on her offer... Wearing that damned dress isn't getting the attention I want, so maybe a change of outfit will do.' I paused at the thought before making my way to the kitchen, a smile spreading across my face. 'I'll just make cookies and offer them to everyone but Cass — maybe then she'll notice me.'

Once I made it to the kitchen, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work — making sure to use a heart-shaped cookie cutter. If anyone questioned me, I'd simply say it was in celebration of Valentine's day — which wouldn't be too far from the truth. After setting them in the oven, I let out a sigh and wiped my brow, not realizing how hot the kitchen could get. 'You're using an oven in a castle that always has lit fireplaces, of course, it's gonna be hot, dumbass.'
