"Are you comfortable?" Alcina mused when I happily leaned into her chest.

"Mhm. Best pillows ever."

"You're impossible."

"And you're gorgeous," I smiled up at her. "Especially with those glasses on."

"Keep complimenting me, and I may have to give you your present tonight instead of in the morning like I planned."

"What present?!"

"...A surprise. One you'll love."

"I hate surprises."

"Not this one," Alcina promised before opening the book to the first page. "Trust me."

"I do trust you," I giggled and looked at the pages. "How'd Costin get sick this time?"

"A maid left a window cracked while cleaning... As soon as she realized Costin was napping in there, she shut it and yelled for Hunter, but it was too late it seems."

"Has she been punished?"

"No. The maid was a mess when she found out Costin was in there. She's one of the few ones who would feel horrible if he started crying — even if she had nothing to do with it."

I nodded with a small frown. "Was it Adina?"

"No," Alcina chuckled. "It was Judy."

"Ah, the other one I mentored! Why did she crack a window?"

"It was a room the triplets never go into, so I gave her permission to do it whenever she cleans the room if she's ever feeling she needs some fresh air."

"She should've known to look around the room," I sighed. "That's enough talk of that. Read to me, Alci."

Alcina chuckled before she began reading, occasionally stopping to ask about my ankle. I smiled at every word, despite how heavy my eyelids were growing as time flew. Before I could get too comfortable, however, my ankle began to throb. A hiss left me, making Alcina stop reading and gently tap my arm to ease me awake.

"Medicine or ice?"

"Ice," I huffed and looked up at her. "I hate this."

"I know, dear," Alcina cooed before adjusting our position to grab the bag of ice that Hunter must've brought. "If Apollo had more time, he would've healed it for you."

"But I do like you pampering me."

"That I also know," Alcina laughed as she helped me into a new position to put the ice on my ankle. "How's that?"

I sighed in relief at the feeling, nodding slowly. "Better. Keep reading."

"Are you hungry or anything?"

"...Do we have any snacks?"

Alcina chuckled but shook her head. "Isa did say they would work on some for us, so they may be ready now."

"Could you ask?" I pouted, earning a laugh from my girlfriend before she pecked my lips.

"Of course."

"Thank you!"

Alcina hummed and handed me the book, making sure I knew where she left off before the vampire left our room. I stretched as best I could while waiting, frowning when I realized we didn't have much more of the book left to read. 'Knowing Alci, we won't have sex until my ankle is better... Well, at least I can cuddle her. There's also always having her read another book.' My gaze shifted to the other bedside table, a huff leaving me when I was unable to reach the drawer. 'Dammit.'
