Isa's POV

Summer 2009. Disaster struck 'Summer Camp' and left me alone. The others supposedly won the war, but I was taken, and no one noticed. Not for a very long time — and by then, it was already too late. A decade in the worst parts of the Underworld can really fuck someone up.

Three years ago, I crawled out of the Underworld and left the states. If I wasn't close — they wouldn't find me. That's how I ended up in this position — a royal working as a maid. I sighed as I finished mopping the floor of the opera hall, exhaustion kicking in as I noticed how low the sun was.

'They'd all laugh if they saw me now,' I thought to myself as I stared out the window. 'Their strongest and smartest soldier, now a lowly maid to a family of monsters... At least they're all hot.'

A faint buzzing caught my attention and I pulled my gaze away from the window, taking a step into the hall. Once the door was shut, the buzzing was suddenly louder and a cold presence surrounded me. I glanced up at lady Bela and silently thanked the years I spent in literal Hell for helping me mask my emotions otherwise, I'd be a blushing mess at how close she was.

"You're working late," Lady Bela muttered as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "I know you work harder than the others do, but I didn't think you worked this late."

"I normally don't," I muttered with a nervous chuckle. "But I took the fall for one of the new maids and this was punishment — having this cleaned by sundown."

"And you still managed... You're very impressive."

"Thank you, my lad—."

The gentle, cold pressure on my cheek made me freeze up immediately. Gold eyes scanned my reaction before the corners of her lips twitched up, making me internally curse. She had superhuman hearing — of course she could hear my heart racing.

'Stop beating so loud!' I groaned internally before letting out an awkward cough. "Th-thank you, my lady, but it's honestly no worry. It's the maid that will have to worry if it happens again. Everyone gets one — she got hers."

"What about my sisters and me?"

"Pardon?"

"Do we," Bela hummed as she circled me, gloved fingers trailing my wingspan. "Also 'get one,'? Or is it only the maids?"

I knew the answer she wanted and we both knew the correct answer. The triplets rarely got in serious trouble with their mother — she adores them more than anything else and she literally lets them get away with murder. I nodded slowly, sucking in a sharp breath when her hand wrapped around my throat.
