Love. What a complicated emotion. It's one you despised for most of your life — claiming it to be stupid and not real, a waste of time and heartache. The villagers hated you for it. But what they really hated you for was when you turned eighteen and your [E/C] eyes melded with gold. They all knew what that meant and they all hated it. You grew to hate it too.

For years you suffered in silence, waiting for the day your eyes would meld with the color of your soulmate's eyes, so when that day came and they matched the color that belonged to the lords, you immediately began to hate it. Villagers would antagonize you, some even going as far as throwing things at you or ruining your outfits. You began to loathe your soulmate and what they were.

You were only allowed out at night now, your family fearing for your safety if you tried to go out during the day. Every night you would go outside and walk around, finding yourself staring at castle Dimitrescu. That's how you knew your soulmate was in there — was one of those bloodsucking monsters.

That's where you were tonight, three years after the color closest to your pupils began to turn gold, three years of going to the same spot and staring at the castle. A twig snapped behind you and you reared around, coming face to face with a group of men from the village. You knew why they were here and they knew why you were here. Before they could try anything, you took off running towards the castle, ignoring their shouts and the sounds of their boots crunching the snow beneath their feet.

Once you were over the gate, the men stopped trying to chase you, leaving you to take deep breaths and glare at them. Their eyes drifted to behind you and widened before they took off, making you tense up. A quiet yelp left you once you were lifted off the ground, your eyes squeezing shut as you were turned to face who had picked you up.

"I don't recall letting you onto my property." A voice called out yet you refused to open your eyes, knowing if you did and she saw them, you'd never be allowed to leave.

"I-I apologize, my lady!" You whimpered, trying to squirm out of her grasp. "Th-they were chasing me and I knew they wou-wouldn't follow me here!"

A low hum left the woman and you had the urge to open your eyes, simply opening them slightly to be able to see how far off the ground you were. You regretted it immediately, shutting them instantly and shivering as a cold breeze nipped at your skin.

"M-may I l-leave n-now?" You breathed out, teeth chattering from the cold.
