Elena Lupu. She was your childhood friend — someone you were practically inseparable from — and yet as you got older, things started to change. You spent less time with her, not because the two of you were growing apart or because your families didn't want you near each other, but because you had started developing feelings for her. When exactly did that start? You couldn't figure that out.

The few times you had been around her in these last few months had been both heaven and hell. When you were with her, you felt like nothing could ruin your happiness — like the two of you were untouchable. But at the same time, there was a voice in the back of your head telling you that she didn't like you the way you liked her.

You tried brushing it off — tried convincing yourself it was more of a sisterly feeling towards her — but that didn't work. Every time she got into a relationship, you grew uncharacteristically jealous and tried your best to distance yourself at the start of each one so you could better hide your feelings. It wasn't until last month that you finally accepted it; you had a crush on Elena.

She had broken up with her last girlfriend about three months ago and, she finally decided she was ready to start looking for a new girlfriend. You had joked about how you'd be able to treat her better than all of her ex's. Elena had decided to challenge you on that, leaving you with two options; Take her on a date for Valentine's day or keep your feelings for her hidden and remain her friend.

You, stupidly, agreed to take her on a date. The worst part about Valentine's day was the weather. You knew Elena wasn't a big fan of the cold and everyone around the village knew you two to be best friends so, going for a walk wouldn't work. No one would believe the two of you were on a date and, that would mean that people would flirt with Elena despite you being next to her.

The next best option would be spending all day together and cooking with her — it was the most logical if you wanted to ensure it was an actual date. So, that's what you decided. You had told her the day before Valentine's day what you had planned and much to your surprise, she seemed excited about the idea. Elena had agreed to come over before breakfast so you could spend the entire day together.

You'd be lying if you said that the knock at your door, while you were making breakfast, didn't both excite and terrify you. A million thoughts raced through your head as you made your way to the door and opened it, sending a warm smile to the brunette as you let her inside of your home.

"Hey, Elena!" You beamed, shutting the door behind her. "Breakfast is almost ready."

"Great because I'm starving." Elena laughed, her cheeks a faint pink from both the cold and the embarrassment of admitting that she was hungry.

"Well, go ahead and take a seat. I'll bring our plates over shortly."

"I can't wait — you always were an amazing chef."

You felt heat rush to your cheeks as you grabbed the plates and carried them to your table, setting a plate in front of Elena before setting yours across from hers. After asking her if she wanted some orange juice, you made your way back to the kitchen before returning shortly after with two glasses. You took your seat and handed Elena her glass, a smile on your face as the two of you ate.

Elena started a conversation with you about halfway through your meal, resulting in light and happy chatter amongst the two of you. After your meal, the two of you made it to the kitchen to begin washing the dishes, continuing your conversation from before. Once you were both finished with the dishes, you leaned against the counter and sent her a warm smile, curious to know what she wanted to do next.

"So, what now?" You giggled out, tilting your head slightly and making sure to take note of the faint blush on the brunette's cheeks at your action.

"Well, I wouldn't mind just relaxing near the fire and talking. We rarely get to see each other since you've been working so much lately." Elena whispered sheepishly, her blue-grey eyes glancing down at the ground instead of at you.

"I'm perfectly fine with that."

The two of you made your way to the living room and sat on the couch, wrapping a blanket around the both of you once you were settled in. You continued to converse afterwards and eventually you ended up with the brunette cuddled into you —  her head resting on your chest and her arms wrapped around your waist. After a while, the two of you simply stayed like that and watched the fire as it crackled in the fireplace.

Elena shifted slightly and let out a soft sigh, clearly content with the moment which ended up bringing you a lot of joy. You knew your heart was pounding — which also meant she more than likely could hear it — but you didn't care. Your childhood friend and crush was currently cuddled into you on the most romantic day of the year.

'I'm not sure if this is your doing but, thank you, Mother Miranda. I'll make an offering the next time I pray to you.'

As soon as your silent thank you ended, a crow cawed near your window before flying off, bringing a faint smile to your face. Elena shifted again and planted her hands on the arm of the couch on either side of your head, causing heat to immediately rush to your cheeks. Her eyes clouded over and the moment her next words left her mouth, your heart stopped.

"I know..." She whispered, her gaze never leaving your face. "I know why you always distance yourself from me when I get in a relationship."

"Y-you d-do?" You stuttered out, your heart racing even faster.

"You like me. That's why I gave you this option — to see if you'd make a move."

"So... You wanted me to?"

"Duh," She laughed out, shocking you slightly. "I've been waiting for years. So, are you going to kiss me or what?"

You swallowed thickly before leaning up and hesitantly connecting your lips with hers, relaxing a bit when she returned the kiss. She broke the kiss after a few minutes, her face bright red as she moved off of you and buried her face in her hands. You knew she was never the one to initiate things such as that so, it was no shock to you that she was completely flustered by her sudden burst of courage. Once you sat up and placed a hand on her lower back, she lowered her hands and glanced over at you.

"So, Elena, will you be my girlfriend?" You asked shyly, smiling when she immediately leaned into you and nuzzled into you.

"Absolutely." She giggled out, wrapping her arms around you once more. "Finally. Looks like Mother Miranda answered my prayers."

"Wait... You prayed for this too?"

"You actually prayed for something?"

"Uh, yeah," You laughed out, heat coating your cheeks once more. "I've been wanting this for a while — years, actually. But, I never thought you felt the same way."

"Why wouldn't I? You're my oldest friend — you know me better than anyone else, [Y/N], of course I'd want to be with you. Once I found out you only liked women, I knew I had a chance, it was just a matter of finding out if you liked me and how to get you to confess." Elena giggled, forcing you to lay down again so she could lay on you.

"I guess I should've said something when you came out instead of letting you date all of those losers — especially your last ex."

"Ugh, let's not talk about her. I don't want to remember her, especially right now."

"Alright, my apologies. What do you want for lunch?"

"We can worry about that later. Let's just stay like this for a bit longer please?" She asked softly, nuzzling into you further.

"Anything for you." You whispered, pressing a kiss to her head. "My lovely girlfriend."
