You sat on the floor, rolled up in a ball. It had been a long week and you didn't know what you were going to do to get through the next. You left your abusive boyfriend finally, but things weren't getting better. The bruises had gone away, but the nightmares of him coming back weren't getting any better.

Your parents put you in a hotel until you could find a place to live and safely get everything from the apartment you had shared with him.

Remembering you hadn't eaten at all that day, you got up and left the hotel room. Halfway down the hall, you ran into someone. You looked up, mumbling an apology when you saw a pair of piercing blue eyes.

"Are you okay?" They asked.

"No. I'm not." You laughed, realizing he was the first to actually ask the question you've been wanting to hear.

"I know I'm just a stranger, but I'll listen if that's what you need."

That was almost two years ago. Gabe was in Toronto for a game and not too long after, he moved you into his apartment in Denver, Colorado. At first, everyone was worried. Not as worried as you, though.

Moving to a different country, pretty far from home, with a guy you don't know? You were positive that it would end in another bad relationship.

But it didn't. Gabe treated you with nothing but respect. He cared for you, holding you when you had nightmares about the previous man that left his mark on your skin multiple times.

"I love you," you mumbled as you played with his hand in bed. The two of you were in Sweden for the rest of the summer after visiting your family in Canada. "Thank you for saving me."

"I didn't save you. You saved yourself." He told you, kissing your forehead.

"Grabriel, I don't know what I would have done if you didn't bring me to Colorado with you. I probably would have gone back to him and who knows what else he might have done."

"You had the strength to leave him, I know you would have stayed away. But that's all in the past. You should be focusing on what's happening now." You stared at the shiny ring on your finger, remembering that you were getting married in just a couple weeks.

"Right. The wedding." You took a deep breath, realizing that time with Gabe flew by.

"You're going to look beautiful. Just like always.
