"Mom told me I was supposed to look after you. That's what I'm going to do." He tried stepping in front of you, but you just pushed him aside.

"Contrary to popular belief, I am not a paper doll. I am able to take care of myself." You grabbed your bag and started out the door.

"I know what young hockey players are like. I was one of them."

"Whatever, Carey. I'll be back later." You slammed the door behind you and climbed into Nathan's car.

That was four months ago and right now, you really wish that you had listened to your brother. You were curled up on the couch, crying to Angela. Carey walked in from his physical therapy appointment, dropping his bag as soon as he saw you.

"You were right, Carey. I should've listened to you." You were hysterical, no idea how to handle yourself right now. You hadn't been together for all that long, but the relationship was so consuming and passionate.

"What happened?"

"He cheated." That's all you could choke out.

Your brother sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I'm going to-"

"Carey."

"Fine. But he better not show his face around here. I won't do anything if I'm with the team."

You didn't move much the first week. You were bribed with bath bombs and your favorite foods in order to take care of yourself. Nothing helped. You just felt so- empty.

Eventually, Nathan came back to talk to you. Carey answered the door and you were standing a few feet away. "What do you want?"

"I just want to apologize." He stepped past your brother, which wasn't a good idea. Nathan turned around to look at his teammate, which only ended bad for him.

"Carey!"

"I'm on injury reserve," he shrugged, "There are things more important than hockey."

You watched your brother walk off to the kitchen before talking to your ex. "You can't take back what you did. Please, just stay away from me."
