None of the star sanses have ever known what the name of the bad sans leader is. They never knew it was Nightmare because no one knew Nightmare was corrupted. Everyone just assumed Nightmare was dead since Nightmare went 'missing' over ten years ago. Nightmare never tried contacting Dream or letting Dream know he was corrupted since he thought Dream would hate him for consuming dark apples. But he missed being able to spend time with his brother. He missed being able to see Dream every day. He missed being able to talk to Dream every day. But he was too scared to admit the truth. But one day, he had had enough and he wanted to contact Dream. So, he texts Dream. Of course, he doesn't bring up the fact that he was corrupted but how would Dream react when he receives a text from Nightmare which makes it become clear that Nightmare was still alive somewhere?
