We arrive at the precinct ten minutes later. I get out of the car and Beckett leads me inside. We walk into the break room.
"Do you want anything to drink?" She asks.
"I'm ok, thank you though."
"Ok. Lets sit down."
We both sit down in the chairs surrounding the table.
"So how old are you?"
"Fourteen."
"Ok. What are you doing out of school? It's nine in the morning."
Oh yeah. Didn't think about that. I decide to tell the truth, what could hurt?
"I take online college classes..."
"What?"
"I take online classes. I'm too advanced for middle or high school, so I got bumped up to college."
"Wow. Ok, how am I supposed to believe that?"
I take out my laptop (from my backpack) and open it. I turn on my online professors video.
As she watches, I can see the doubt in her eyes change to awe.
"Ok. I believe you. You are a fourteen year old genius. So now onto the crime scene. Why were you walking by?"
"I don't know. I was going for a walk."
"And your parents are ok with that?"
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. I hope she didn't notice, but she is a detective.
"They didn't exactly know. They are both at work."
"Ok, what about siblings?"
"I have three. All at school."
But all of this is a lie.

My mom died a year ago from cancer.
And my dad and siblings were murdered.
