As soon as she detransformed, Mari sat down on the ground and sobbed, burying her face in her knees.

'Woah, hey, hey, hey, what's wrong my melody?' I said as I sat down next to her, my energy slowly returning. I was a little taken aback because usually I'm the one she buries her face into when she cries.

'It's all my fault! It's all my fault!' she was saying over and over again, like a broken record.

'No, no, no, shh....' I said softly as I put my arms around her and brought her head to my chest where it belongs. 'Nothing is your fault my angel' I whispered softly.

'It is my fault! If I hadn't have questioned you about why you get overwhelmed you wouldn't have been akumatised!' Mari sniffed.

'I'm so sorry you had to see me like that my angel. I never wanted to hurt you. But now I know the truth of who my father is. And now nothing overwhelms me anymore. It's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. If anyone should be sorry, it's me. I really should have taken your advice and resisted from the beginning. But because I didn't, Shadowmoth could have used me to find out your identity. And I could never have lived with myself if I had let that happen' I said sadly.

'But you didn't let it happen' Mari smiled, looking into my eyes with admiration. 'You actually broke free of the akuma! I have never seen that happen before!'

I smiled lovingly back at her. 'Of course I did, my melody. I love you too much to let Shadowmoth win' I said softly as I stroked her hair as she smiled and sighed happily in my arms. We stayed this way for a few minutes until my energy levels were almost back to normal.

'Don't worry about that angel...' I whispered. 'Thank you for saving me from being akumatised' I smiled lovingly back at her.

Mari blushed. 'You're welcome. But I didn't do much, it was all you!' Mari smiled.

'Just knowing you were there trying to save me was all I needed' I replied, kissing her hair softly.

Mari smiled and sighed. 'By the way, did I hear you call him Shadowmoth?' she asked.

'Yeah, he sounded the same, he seems to have just changed his name.' I replied.

'I hope he hasn't gotten more powerful' she replied.

'Obviously not powerful enough to stop me from breaking free of an akuma!' I reminded her.

'Yes, that's true! I'm so proud of you!' she replied as she hugged me.

'Thanks, my angel' I replied.

I put my hand under her chin and tilted her face to look at me.

'I love you so much my melody. What did I do to deserve you?' I whispered as I leaned closer to her lips and gently kissed her, using my thumbs to wipe away any residual tears from her cheeks.

I pulled away from her lips and put my nose against hers and we gently rubbed noses in an Eskimo kiss. Then I gave her a quick kiss on her nose. Mari and I both giggled.

'So, did you really find out who your father is? she asked.

'Yes, I did. It's Jagged Stone.'

Mari gasped. 'Really?' she said. Even she was finding it difficult to believe.

'Yeah. I know that he and my mom had a past but I never even imagined that he was mine and Juleka's father. I need to see him. I want to know why he gave us up. Like... did we do something... wrong?'

Now it was my turn to have tears in my eyes and Mari hugged me.

'You could never do anything wrong my love' she whispered as she snuggled into my chest.

'Thanks, my angel' I whispered, feeling happier at her comforting words.

'Can you come with me to see him my angel?' I asked at the same time as she said, 'I can come with you to see him if you want!'

We both giggled.

'I'd really like that my melody' I replied as I kissed her hair.

'It's getting late, I should walk you home' I said as I stood up and helped her to her feet as we walked hand in hand to the bakery.
