HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!! Sorry I haven't published anything, I've been wrapped up in my South Park books and I got no idea what to write for this book anymore since I almost have 200 oneshots posted already

Warnings: mention of a possible eating disorder

"I can do it."
Lexy mumbled to herself, throwing the volleyball back into the air and bumping it. It stung, it hurt so bad but she had to practice if she wanted to make the team.

Her forearms were bright red and sore from the ball hitting them so many times. She skinned her knees, without knee pads, she didn't have anything to protect herself when she went diving for the ball. She's never sweat so much until now but she's too determined to call it quits. Her skin-tight shirt was dirty from not changing out of it unless she was going to bed, she's been wearing it outside and sweating in it for days. She only changed her short shorts, which she owned various different colors of the same pair.

From sunrise to sunset she practiced. Getting her bumps right, making sure she could serve overhand and underhand, learning how to spike and set the ball. Learning different positions and how to rotate. Lexy even took the time to get to know the girls who made it on the team last year for the school, hoping they could possibly help her before tryouts at the end of summer.

She only went inside to use the bathroom or to get more water, she forgot to eat since she started practicing. Whenever Jake or Devon reminded her to eat, her excuse was always: "I'm busy, I'll eat later." Or, "I'm not hungry right now." To be honest, it was very worrying to the boys and quickly set off some alarm in their head that she was starving herself, maybe not on purpose. But she needed to eat or she wouldn't even be qualified.

"Lexy, you need to eat. You haven't eaten in days." Devon said.

"I'll eat later! I need to get this serve right or I won't make the team!"
Lexy excused, throwing the ball into the air and smacking it with the palm of her hand.

"You're kidding? That serve was perfect. You can get much better than that. You need to eat or you'll be too weak to even qualify for try outs! And it's June! Try outs aren't 'til August!"
The boy replied.

"Devon, I need to practice! I need to be the best I can so I know for a fact I make the team. Besides, I'm not hungry right now. If you want to bother someone there's your boyfriend!"
The blonde exclaimed, walking across the yard to grab the ball.

"I'm not trying to bother you. I'm concerned about you, Lexy. And Jake is too. Just eat a bowl of mac n cheese, that's all we ask."
Devon said.

"You guys should be concerned if I make the team or not."
Lexy justified, again, throwing the ball in the air but this time, she put her hands together and bumped the ball. It went high into the air, going across the yard.

"Fuck Lexy! You've been practicing day and night since summer break started. You haven't done anything else! It's grey you're passionate about volleyball but you need a break. You're overworking yourself."
Jake claimed.

"I'm not overworking myself! I just want to be good so I can at least be average compared to the other girls playing."

"If you don't eat, you're going to pass out and you won't be able to play for days, maybe weeks, maybe you won't even be able to make it to try outs due to health concerns. Thirty minutes inside to eat some food isn't going to make you a horrible player."
The curly haired boy said.

"That's a lie. I'm sure I'll be fine if I pass out."

"Are you hearing yourself right now?"
Devon asked.

"Loud and clear."
The girl responds.

"Lexy, you don't be fine. You're doing fantastic, especially for someone who's never played a sport a day in their life! Do you see how you make that ball fly? You're going to make the team, no doubt. You need to eat and sleep. You've been losing sleep from watching volleyball videos, I heard it when I walked past your room in the middle of the night. And I also heard you crying in your room because you're scared you won't make the team. You will, Lexy. I'm sure of it."
Jake advised.

"You guys are being dramatic. I appreciate your concern for me but I swear I'm fine."
Lexy assured.

"You need a break. We can go to a amusement park tomorrow, or go swimming!"
Devon suggested.
"We need to hang out and have fun again! You can worry about volleyball any day but let's just have a day for all of us."

She smiled.
"Yeah, sure. I miss you guys. But I just want to be good."

"You are good! And when you do play, we'll go to every single game and cheer you on."

"I know you dorks will."
